Superintendent Position
J.H. Fitzmaurice, Inc. (JHF) is seeking an experienced superintendent to lead the field operations of multifamily construction projects from mobilization through completion. The superintendent is responsible for the overall day-to-day management of the jobsite, including field supervision, schedule execution, subcontractor coordination, site logistics, safety, quality control, inspections, manpower management, and field documentation. This position works closely with the project manager and assistant superintendent to maintain an organized, safe, and productive jobsite and ensure the project is completed in accordance with the contract documents, project schedule, and established quality standards.
Essential functions include:
- Leading and managing all field operations for the project, including the daily supervision of subcontractors, field staff, and jobsite activities.
- Developing, maintaining, and updating the project master schedule in collaboration with the project manager, including sequencing, schedule narratives, impacts, recovery planning, and resequencing efforts as needed.
- Preparing and maintaining six-week look-ahead schedules and coordinating upcoming work activities with subcontractors and field staff.
- Tracking daily progress and maintaining schedule actualization, including real-time monitoring of schedule impacts, weather delays, and other field conditions affecting project performance.
- Leading weekly foreman meetings, subcontractor pre-mobilization meetings, and field coordination meetings.
- Managing overall jobsite logistics, including access, staging, material flow, deliveries, cranes, personnel and material lifts, temporary facilities, and general site organization.
- Supervising and coordinating subcontractors to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans, specifications, and schedule requirements.
- Monitoring jobsite manpower, daily production, and subcontractor performance, and proactively addressing deficiencies in staffing, sequencing, or field execution.
- Enforcing jobsite safety requirements through daily safety inspections, correction notices, and verification of safe work practices.
- Working closely with the project safety coordinator and onsite team to implement and enforce the site-specific safety program and emergency action plan.
- Overseeing project quality control and quality assurance, including field verification of work in place, supervision of corrective work, and responsibility for the quality of the finished product.
- Providing constructability input and field review related to RFIs, ASIs, shop drawings, and other design clarifications.
- Coordinating building inspections, special inspections, owner consultants, testing agencies, and other jurisdictional authorities as required by the project.
- Overseeing site general requirements, including heavy equipment, cranes, personnel and material hoists, temporary utilities, dumpsters, sanitary facilities, water supply, and related jobsite support needs.
- Monitoring equipment service schedules and compliance with applicable OSHA inspection requirements for cranes, lifts, and other major equipment.
- Mentoring and supporting assistant superintendents, project engineers, and other field staff in construction best practices, jobsite safety, quality standards, and project procedures.
- Collaborating closely with the project manager and assistant superintendent to identify and resolve field issues, maintain project progress, and support project closeout.
Qualifications and requirements include:
- Prior field experience on ground-up multifamily construction projects is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings and specifications.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, field coordination, jobsite safety, and subcontractor management.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with field staff, subcontractors, consultants, and inspectors.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction management software is preferred.
- Bluebeam experience is a plus.
