This position supports the Northwest region encompassing Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.

Location:

remote within the region, with preference for Seattle/Tacoma area.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for working with OEM engineers, Manufacturer's Representatives, Distribution Partners and Territory Sales Managers to implement Laird solutions for existing, next generation, and cost reduction programs.
  • Regularly attend customer meetings and provide technical design support while building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Utilize all product and material offerings, providing insightful and detailed design solutions.
  • Present design solutions to customers, utilizing modeling and simulation during presentation.
  • Drive customer interactions, prototype, and initial production build to meet stakeholder timelines.
  • Originate and release final production documentation with critical dimensions and tolerances required for a functional part, but also taking into account manufacturing restrictions.
  • Manage and direct a project through a product development design team consisting of multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Coordinate activities between departments to meet product development requirements in support of customer programs.
  • Set priorities and direction for multiple programs concurrently in development.
  • Keep skills current to insure Laird competitiveness in a dynamic global business environment.
  • May require extensive travel to customer sites required providing design specific solutions (~50%).
  • Adhere to quality and safety systems and maintain quality and safety standards.
Education / Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or a technical field (required).
  • Experience/knowledge in manufacturing processes (preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a similar position.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with component level or subsystem level design.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with thermal management and implementation of thermal solutions.
  • 5+ years design experience.
Requirements
  • Proficient with solid-modeling software, preferably CREO or Solid Works, and/or mechanical/electrical or multiphysics software such as Abaqus, HFSS, or COMSOL.
  • Understanding of Finite Element Analysis or Finite Difference numerical modeling techniques.
  • Understanding of cross-functional relationships between intercompany groups and the various expertise required to take a product through development to production.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to act as an extension of OEM design teams from system to component level.
  • Some combination of thermal, electromagnetic, mechanical, and electrical design experience.
  • Ability to understand electronic system architecture at least at the block diagram level.
  • Experience proactively engaging customers, organizing intercompany meetings, and maintaining business relationships across commercial and technical functions.
  • Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
