Data Center Operations Engineer

What you’ll be doing:

• Responsible for design and developing solutions to physical builds of General Motors’ AV infrastructure.
• Ownership of any “on the ground” maintenance required of GM’s infrastructure across multiple partner teams nationwide.
• Collaborating and scaling liquid cooled server fleet across GM’s data centers.
• Monitoring and responding to environmental alarms (power, cooling, and leak detection).
• Running hardware diagnostics and replacing failing parts in a timely manner.
• Participate in on-call rotation for mission critical services.

• Experience working in Data Center Operations for 5+ years or related field.
• CompTIA Server Plus, CompTIA Network+, or CCNA certification or equivalent work experience.
• Considerable background in infrastructure build: structured cabling, MDF/IDF/MPOE buildout, as well as power and cooling.
• Understanding of electrical and cooling systems with respect to data center environment.
• In-depth knowledge of data center environments, servers, and infrastructure.
• Experience installing, monitoring, and maintaining data center equipment.
• Outstanding ability to work as part of a team, provide support, and resolve errors.
• Ability to keep up with advancements in data center infrastructure and technologies.
• Proficiency in detailing work processes.
• Willingness to work off hours as needed to support maintenance and incidents.
• Mentoring colleagues and maturing the program.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers and internal staff and effectively work in team environment.

• Able to participate in on-call rotation.
• Ability to stand and crawl, duck, kneel, lift and move up to 50 pounds over short distances.
• Ability to climb ladders.
• Travel within metro area as needed.
• Occasional travel outside of the metro area for build and operations (15%).

• Prior experience with vendor management.
• Hands-on experience with liquid cooled servers.
• Solid understanding of modern data center infrastructure management (DCIM) - Sunbird, Nautobot, or other related products.
• Effective leadership skills to drive standardization and efficiency across the team.
• Experience in Hardware in Loop environment – continuous bench testing.
• RCDD Certification.

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Sunnyvale office three times per week, at minimum.

• The salary range for this role: $135,000 to $190,000. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
