The Role

Amazon Design Technologies is a multi‑disciplinary group within Amazon Devices that builds and provides engineering tools and workflows, software systems and integrations, automations, and design services to hardware engineering teams across Amazon. We manage enterprise engineering systems, CAD tools, PDM/PLM systems, high‑performance compute (HPC) environments, and license management/procurement.

We are looking for an ECAD Application Development Engineer with development expertise in Cadence suite of applications, specifically Cadence OrCAD, Allegro, System Capture and Pulse to play a key role in customizing and extending the ECAD applications used  team is uniquely positioned at the intersection of hardware design and artificial intelligence, pioneering AI‑based design review and design generation capabilities that will transform how engineers create next‑generation products.

This position will be responsible for leading the functional design, customizations, configurations and support of ECAD applications with a primary focus on building and deploying the systems/solutions that scale. You will have the opportunity to integrate AI/ML technologies into traditional CAD workflows, enabling intelligent automation and design assistance. Core activities will include gathering and defining requirements, designing and developing scripts/automations, prototyping and developing ECAD application extensions, and supporting engineering tools and process automations by collaborating with teams responsible for working with Product Data Management (PDM), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and CAD systems.

job responsibilities
  • Responsible for the maintenance and support of Cadence suite of applications (OrCAD, Allegro, System Capture, Pulse).
  • Design, develop, implement and support Cadence extensions, features and customizations.
  • Explore and implement AI/ML‑powered features for intelligent design review, automated design generation, and design optimization.
  • Support, enhance, and develop integrations with PDM/PLM toolsets and workflows.
  • Develop custom OrCAD workflows and process automations.
  • Develop automations using Tcl/SKILL scripting.
  • Collaborate with AI/ML teams to integrate large language models (LLMs) and machine learning capabilities into ECAD workflows.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on Cadence toolset and ECAD data management.
  • Diagnose and solve a range of issues, including, but not limited to: software deployment, platform interoperability, EDA systems, installation and licensing.
  • Interact with business customers to understand and document their business processes and requirements.
  • Create business requirements documents, system configuration documents, detailed functional design documents, test plans and test cases, user training documents and implementation documents.
Basic Qualifications
  • 4+ years of software development experience.
  • Experience with Java and scripting languages like Perl, Python, Unix shell scripts, VBA and MS Excel.
  • 3+ years of work experience with Electronic Design Automation tools.
  • Design experience using EDA tools (OrCAD/System Capture/Allegro PCB/Pulse PDM).
  • Development experience using SKILL, Tcl.
  • Fluency in AI/ML/LLM technologies and their practical applications in software development and automation.
  • BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks (AWS Bedrock, Tensor Flow, PyTorch) or working with large language models.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI capabilities into traditional engineering workflows.

Salary range: $133,200 to $185,000 annually.
