Description
Lockheed Martin Space is looking for an experienced System Safety Engineer at our Sunnyvale, CA facility. This role supports mission‑critical system safety requirements throughout the lifecycle of aerospace and defense systems, ensuring compliance with national defense standards and facilitating safe system integration and validation.
Responsibilities- Analyze hardware and software to establish and maintain system safety requirements.
- Support the Systems Engineering team throughout the lifecycle, including detailed trade studies, requirements allocation, interface definition, and translation of customer requirements into hardware and software requirements.
- Support Systems Engineering during System Integration and conduct verification/validation of system requirements.
- Develop and/or update Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analyses (FHAs), System Hazard Analyses (SHA), and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR).
- Prepare presentations and participate in Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings, and various safety review meetings.
- Develop and/or update System Safety documents to support Customer, Range Safety, and contractual requirements.
- Review and provide input to test procedures for adherence to System Safety requirements.
- Coordinate with test range safety teams and write range safety reports to support testing.
- Develop and maintain a Hazard Tracking System (HTS) to document hazards, assessments, and mitigation.
- Experience using System Safety Standards and related industry or range safety standards.
- Proficiency in developing, documenting, and verifying system requirements.
- Knowledge of System Safety design and operations safety principles, including hazard identification, analysis, risk mitigation, and corresponding documentation.
- Ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
- Secret security clearance or higher.
- Experience with MIL-STD-882E, AFSPCMAN 91-710, or other relevant standards.
- Experience defining safety requirements, influencing design to integrate safety requirements, and verifying safety requirements.
- Software system safety experience.
- Participation in System Safety Working Groups.
- Experience with Strategic Missile Defense/Strategic Re‑Entry Programs.
- Familiarity with MBSE and DOORS.
- Effective communication skills and proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

California, Massachusetts, New York (excluding major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington, or Washington DC: $89,300 – $157,550 annual base. Salary is a general guideline and may vary by location and qualifications.
