Job Overview
As a Hardware Development Engineer, you will design, build, and validate the electronic systems inside our robot platform, spanning everything from compute to power distribution and peripheral interfaces. You will collaborate closely with firmware engineers, mechanical designers, and manufacturing partners to take board designs from concept through production. The ideal candidate is hands‑on, comfortable owning a board end‑to‑end, has a track record of successful board spins and thrives in a fast‑paced environment where hardware decisions directly impact robot capability and safety.
Key Responsibilities- Lead electrical design for PCBAs across the robotic platform – including schematic capture, component selection, architecture, and design considerations for signal integrity, manufacturability, testability, and cost.
- Develop and review PCB layouts for multi‑layer boards with high‑speed digital interfaces (PCIe, USB, MIPI, Ethernet, Ether
CAT), ensuring impedance control, power integrity, and EMC compliance. - Design power distribution systems including DC‑DC converters, LDOs, power sequencing, load switches, and protection circuits for a multi‑voltage robotic system.
- Develop, execute, and automate electrical test plans – including board bring‑up, functional verification, and production test strategy (boundary scan, ICT, functional test).
- Conduct troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and implement design modifications throughout the product lifecycle – including prototype debug, failure analysis, and manufacturing yield improvement.
- Partner with firmware engineers on hardware‑software co‑development, peripheral interface definition, and board support package bring‑up.
- Manage relationships with external vendors, PCB fabricators, and contract manufacturers including DFM review, stack‑up optimization, and production support.
- Maintain design documentation including schematics, BOMs, design rationale, test reports, and engineering change orders.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
- 3+ years of experience in PCBA‑level circuit design for consumer electronics, robotics, industrial, or automotive applications.
- Experience with electrical design verification, electronics test equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, multimeter, power supply, soldering/rework tools), and board bring‑up.
- Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Altium Designer, Cadence, or similar).
- Familiarity with complex embedded electronics architectures and interconnections – including SoCs, MCUs, DRAM, storage, and digital communication interfaces (USB, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, MIPI).
- Experience with power architecture design, power supply design (LDOs, switching regulators), and power distribution networks.
- Proficiency with Altium Designer.
- Experience with high‑speed interface design and verification (PCIe, USB 3.x, MIPI CSI, Ethernet, Ether
CAT). - Experience with SoC/SoM‑based compute board design (Qualcomm, NVIDIA, or similar application processors).
- Experience with signal integrity and power integrity analysis tools (HSpice, ADS, Siwave, Power
SI). - Experience with motor driver circuits, gate drivers, or power stage design for BLDC actuators.
- Experience with IMU or inertial sensor electrical design and integration.
- Familiarity with battery management systems (BMS) and lithium‑ion battery integration.
- Experience working with contract manufacturers on production board builds, DFM optimization, and factory test development.
- Familiarity with functional safety hardware mechanisms (watchdogs, voltage monitors, safe‑state circuits) or safety standards (IEC 61508, ISO 13849).
- Experience with programming languages for test automation (Python, C/C++, MATLAB).
