Manufacturing Engineer, Quality Engineering
Primary Function of Position
The mission of Supplier Engineering is to deliver high‑quality components to our production lines by developing a world‑class supplier network. This is achieved by ensuring supply continuity, supporting business growth, driving annual cost reductions, and proactively mitigating supply chain risks.
The ideal candidate has a proven track record of maintaining the quality of optoelectronic and optomechanical components to support robust production operations and deliver exceptional products to our customers. This individual brings hands‑on process engineering experience, including analyzing nonconforming materials, identifying root causes, conducting detailed failure analyses, and effectively documenting and communicating findings to stakeholders.
Roles and Responsibilities- Inspect and disposition nonconforming optoelectronic/optomechanical components and communicate findings to supplier engineers to determine appropriate next steps.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—including design engineering, manufacturing engineering, and production—to reduce nonconforming materials and streamline the Variance Request (VR) process times.
- Support design engineers in improving specifications to clarify manufacturing and outgoing inspection requirements at suppliers, contributing to efforts to minimize nonconforming materials.
- Communicate with suppliers regarding returned components, providing essential engineering data and outlining subsequent steps required for suppliers to complete failure analysis and implement corrective actions promptly.
- Monitor supplier activities related to returned components or assemblies by collaborating with the procurement team to ensure timely receipt of credit for non‑usable ones identified as escapes and approve suppliers’ rework activities for usable ones.
To successfully perform the responsibilities of this position, the individual must possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, optics, physical or materials science, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of direct experience inspecting and dispositioning optoelectronic and optomechanical components.
- Direct experience in manufacturing optoelectronic and optomechanical components.
- Strong technical skills in problem‑solving, root cause analysis, and driving corrective actions to closure.
- Proven ability to interpret detailed drawings and understand required dimensional tolerances and cosmetic defect limits at both the assembly and component levels.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills.
- Experience in the medical device, automotive, or aerospace industries is a plus.
