Job Overview
The Sr. Hardware Quality Engineering Manager (QEM) is responsible for ensuring that our products are designed for quality and continue to meet our customers’ high expectations during the life of the product. They will focus on product quality deliverables during product launch and sustaining.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe Sr. QEM will establish quality goals, monitor performance, investigate using a full suite of failure analysis tools, and drive root cause and closed‑loop corrective action. They will lead quality lessons learned, institute remedies to prevent recurrence, and manage critical issues with a high sense of urgency.
Responsibilities include:
- Identify risks and work with product development and sustaining engineering to resolve critical and high‑risk items before shipping.
- Drive continuous improvement in New Product Introduction (NPI) and Sustaining phases.
- Work across product design, manufacturing, factory process controls, and customer service complaint handling to maintain quality.
- Guide cross‑functional teams in Design for Quality initiatives.
- Analyze build data to establish specific product quality issues and drive closed‑loop corrective action.
- Utilize data analytics, statistics, advanced quality methods and protocols.
- Communicate recommended solutions to product development and executive teams.
- Create standards and build consensus across the organization.
- Establish quality functional milestones during NPI & Sustaining.
- Travel up to 30% domestic and international.
- Understand the technology and functionality of Consumer Hardware products, and be able to assess the risk to a negative customer experience so that it can be prevented during development.
- Analyze build data to establish specific product quality issue(s) and drive a closed loop corrective action within the organization.
- Experience with data analytics, statistics, advanced quality methods and protocol.
- Guide cross‑functional teams in Design for Quality initiatives.
- Utilize comprehensive knowledge of standards, related disciplines, company strategy and goals to ensure a positive customer experience.
- Deliver solutions to complex problems through in‑depth data analysis and forensics by using methodical approaches, along with experience, innovation and judgment to make choices that may be based on partial information.
- Understand detailed implications of decisions and recommendations and be able to communicate recommended solutions to the product development team, all the way up to the executive team.
- Align cross‑functionally, influencing a broad spectrum of stakeholders to deliver on the quality policy.
- Create standards around which others will operate and build consensus.
- Establish specific quality related functional milestones during New Product Introduction (NPI) & Sustaining.
- Up to 30% of domestic and international travel is required.
Amazon’s Consumer hardware group is responsible for products like Echo, Kindle, Fire TV, alongside core services such as Alexa Voice Service, Amazon Music, and Prime Video. The team works with cross‑functional engineering teams and manufacturing suppliers to design products and conduct comprehensive testing—including SMT, FATP, hardware/software validation, performance evaluation, and user experience assessment—to maintain high standards throughout the product lifecycle.

Basic Qualifications- 4+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
- Experience with prototyping and implementation.
- Knowledge of Solid Works simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools.
- Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume.
