As a Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) – Automation, you will be responsible for defining, developing, and implementing controls and software standards for assembly automation equipment. You will be a key member of the development team and the main interface between the Hardware and Product Design Engineering teams with local and Offshore Operations teams within Lab
126 and our OEM partners.
- Work across teams to design and develop systems that integrate hardware and software.
- Prototype and test concepts or features through simulators, emulators and live robotic equipment.
- Work closely with Senior Engineers to create production‑ready systems deployable at Amazon scale.
- Play an important role in tackling hard problems, acquiring expertise as needed.
- Implement guidance from Senior Engineers in proposed projects.
- Operate tactfully with guidance within the organization.
- Research, design, and develop hardware sub‑components for devices or electromechanical systems.
- Design sub‑components that match defined specifications and requirements.
- Work with CAD modelling software and engineering tools (Solid Works, MATLAB, etc.).
- Work with suppliers to understand fabrication and manufacturing feasibility (DFM, tolerance analysis).
- Assist in trade‑off decisions (materials, availability, cost).
- Deliver quality artefacts: design schematics, component/assembly drawings, bill of materials, trade studies.
- Troubleshoot, research root causes, and resolve defects.
- Document research and design alternatives considered.
- Participate in design, scoping, and prioritization discussions.
- Escalate risks or problems in solutions or project plans.
- Develop software based on the guidance provided for Assembly Automation Equipment.
- Troubleshoot automation hardware equipment as per the guidance provided by Senior HDE.
- Work closely with Senior HDEs to develop hardware solutions for assembly automation equipment.
- Create necessary documentation for the code development performed.

Basic Qualifications- 2+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems, and systems experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics or equivalent.
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/network development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.
- Experience with hardware/software integration and real‑time systems.
