Systems Engineer - System Safety Engineer

We are looking for an experienced System Safety Engineer to join our Team in Sunnyvale, CA. The role applies Systems Engineering Knowledge and System Safety Expertise to analyze hardware and software, establish safety requirements, and support the Systems Engineering team throughout the system lifecycle.

• Develop and/or update Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analyses (FHAs), System Hazard Analyses (SHA), and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR).
• Prepare presentations and participate in Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings, and various working groups and safety review meetings.
• Develop and/or update System Safety documents to support Customer, Range Safety, and contractual requirements.
• Review and provide input to test procedures for adherence to System Safety requirements.
• Coordinate with test range safety teams and write range safety reports to support testing.
• Develop and maintain a Hazard Tracking System (HTS) to document real and potential hazards, assessments, and mitigation.

• Experience using System Safety Standards.
• Experience with the development, documentation, and verification of system requirements.
• Expertise in hazard identification, analysis, risk mitigation and/or associated deliverable documentation.
• Active and current Secret clearance required with an ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance; U.S. Citizenship required.

• Secret clearance (or above).
• Experience using MIL-STD-882E, AFSPCMAN 91-710, or other relevant standards.
• Experience defining safety requirements, influencing design integration, and verifying safety requirements.
• Software system safety experience.
• Participation in System Safety Working Groups.
• Experience with Satellite Programs.
• Familiarity with MBSE.
• Familiarity with DOORS.
• Effective communication skills for group meetings.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

This position requires a government security clearance; the clearance level is TS/SCI. U.S. citizenship is required. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation.

• Other states: salary range reflects location.
• Major metropolitan areas (CA, MA, NY): $125,600 - $217,695.

Position is contingent on program award, expected Q3 2026. This position is incentive plan eligible. Layer that the work will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
