The Hardware Product Quality Engineer is a critical role within Operations, responsible for managing hardware product quality issues, driving root cause analysis and corrective actions, and championing continuous improvement across the organization. This individual contributor role requires a seasoned quality professional who can independently lead cross-functional efforts to resolve complex product quality challenges, whether originating internally or at contract manufacturer sites.
The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in electronics manufacturing with strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills to influence global quality outcomes and ensure product reliability.
- Lead hardware product quality escalation for the operations team, independently driving root cause analysis and corrective actions for field returns and manufacturing quality issues.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on quality metrics, identifying trends and driving measurable improvements, including the development of new measures and metrics as needed.
- Lead cross-functional meetings to monitor field quality and reliability, collaborating with technical operations, component engineering, and sustaining engineering to resolve failure modes attributed to supplier, manufacturing, or design deficiencies.
- Represent product quality engineering in projects of significant scope requiring multi-functional participation with global impact, potentially affecting company-wide policy changes.
- Support purge/mco/eco, deviation, and manufacturing hold activities, ensuring completeness and accuracy prior to submission and approval.
- Support commodity teams as required to address quality concerns and drive resolution.
- Participate in product quality engineer critical initiatives to ensure consistency and standardization within the organization.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent.
- 5+ years of work-related experience in hardware quality engineering or a closely related field.
- Familiarity and understanding of printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) processes, including surface mount assembly and general electronic soldering operations.
- Knowledge of system box build and configuration processes.
- General knowledge of IPC specifications (e.g., IPC-A-610) and industry circuit board standards.
- Experience working with contract manufacturing.
- Familiarity with electronics manufacturing and quality systems.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products required; knowledge of Agile is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and auditing skills.
- Solid project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to influence, empower, and lead multi-functional teams without direct authority.
- Excellent collaboration, influencing, and interpersonal skills across diverse and global teams.
- Strong communication and intercultural skills, with flexibility to support global time zones including after-hours availability.
- Hybrid office environment, two days per week on-site in Sunnyvale, CA.
- Off-hours support required to collaborate across global time zones.
- Up to 10% domestic and international travel required.
