Regulatory Compliance Specialist, Safety Engineer
Hire Art is helping our client find an Operations Safety Engineer to assess, influence, and verify the operational safety and readiness of autonomous vehicles.
In this role, you’ll facilitate risk assessments, support incident investigations, monitor fleet safety, and help maintain governance frameworks that align with regulatory requirements and operational objectives. You'll also play a key role in establishing, maintaining, and improving operational safety processes across multiple teams and geographic locations.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in system or operational safety and thrives in cross-functional environments. They combine analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive continuous improvements to safety processes.
Responsibilities- Participate in Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) reviews to identify design, requirements, and hazards that require operational mitigations.
- Conduct operational hazard assessments using methodologies such as FMEA, STPA, FTA, and bowtie analysis, while maintaining safety risk registers and mitigation plans.
- Support root cause investigations for safety incidents, recommend corrective actions, and help ensure effective implementation.
- Partner with engineering teams to evaluate the operational impact of system and software changes while supporting compliance with industry safety standards.
- Monitor fleet safety metrics, including near misses, disengagements, and interventions, and help drive continuous feedback between operations and engineering teams.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams across multiple organizations or geographic locations
- Background in system safety or operational safety within autonomous vehicles, ADAS, robotics, or another complex, safety-critical industry
- Strong knowledge of safety methodologies, including FTA, FMEA, STPA, and Bowtie Analysis, with the ability to apply them in operational environments
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence engineering, operations, and policy teams
- Experience standardizing safety practices across global operations, including documentation, governance, and training programs
- Direct experience supporting autonomous vehicle or ADAS testing operations
- Familiarity with functional safety and autonomy standards such as ISO 26262, UL 4600, and SOTIF
- Experience contributing to safety case development or supporting safety audits
- Experience developing or supporting safety monitoring, incident tracking, or reporting systems

This is a full-time, 6-month contract position (with the possibility of extension) staffed via Hire Art. This role is onsite in Sunnyvale, CA and available to candidates based in the Bay Area.
