The Staff Engineer will lead advanced structural analysis efforts to evaluate corrosion in high performance materials exposed to harsh environmental conditions for long durations (weather, thermal cycling, high humidity, etc, …). The role requires expertise in composite material behavior, damage mechanisms, specialized corrosion assessment techniques, and field repair and rework options to preserve structural functionality. The incumbent will act as a technical authority, mentor junior engineers, and drive the development of analysis tools, test methods, and design recommendations that ensure long term structural integrity of aerospace or defense systems.
• Demonstrated experience in structural analysis and corrosion engineering.
• Demonstrated expertise with composite materials (e.g., carbon fiber, glass fiber, hybrid composites or similar).
• Advanced proficiency in finite element analysis tools (e.g. Abaqus, NASTRAN or similar).
• Knowledge of relevant aerospace/defense standards governing corrosion and structural integrity (e.g., MIL STD 1629, ASTM G1, G31, G85).
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is strongly preferred.
• Competence in material characterization techniques (SEM, EDS, FTIR, DMA).
• Experience with high performance aerospace or defense programs.
• Publications or patents related to corrosion science, composite durability, or advanced structural analysis.
• Experience using data driven or machine learning approaches for life prediction modeling.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams, provide mentorship, and influence decisions across functional boundaries.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to produce clear technical reports and deliver concise presentations to senior leadership.
