Mechanical Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Product Engineer, Systems Engineer
We’re partnering with a well-funded, venture-backed AI company that’s modernizing a large legacy industry through computer vision, machine learning, and modern software. Following a recent funding round, the company is expanding its engineering organization and investing in the next generation of its connected hardware products.
The company’s platform brings together intelligent hardware, edge computing, and cloud-based software to help enterprise customers manage complex physical environments more effectively. With multiple new products ready to enter development, the company is now building out a dedicated hardware team that will play a foundational role in its next stage of growth.
As a Design Engineer, you will own the mechanical development of connected hardware products from early concepts through manufacturing and field deployment. You’ll design products that integrate cameras, compute, power, electronics, and connectivity while working closely with electrical engineering, industrial design, manufacturing partners, and suppliers.
This is primarily a mechanical engineering position, but you should be comfortable working with electromechanical systems, using basic electrical lab equipment, and collaborating with electrical engineers during product bring-up and troubleshooting.
This is a full-time, permanent position onsite in Sunnyvale, California.
Responsibilities:- Design and develop mechanical and electromechanical assemblies for connected hardware products
- Own projects from early concepts and prototypes through EVT, DVT, PVT, and production
- Create detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, tolerance analyses, and manufacturing documentation
- Design enclosures and assemblies that integrate electronics, cameras, power, compute, and connectivity
- Balance product performance, reliability, appearance, manufacturability, and cost
- Apply DFM and DFA principles across sheet metal, injection-molded parts, and other manufacturing processes
- Build, test, and iterate on physical prototypes
- Evaluate thermal performance, vibration, environmental exposure, structural requirements, and real-world installation conditions
- Use basic electrical lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, to support product bring-up and troubleshooting
- Work closely with electrical engineers to understand how mechanical and electrical systems fit together
- Coordinate with domestic and international vendors, contract manufacturers, and engineering partners
- Support tooling, production readiness, quality, and manufacturing issue resolution
- Keep multiple hardware development work streams moving forward with urgency and accountability
- Troubleshoot design and production issues during manufacturing and field deployment
- Help establish the processes and technical foundation for a growing hardware engineering team
Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
- 2 to 5+ years of experience developing mechanical or electromechanical hardware products
- Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and systems-level product development experience
- Proficiency with Solid Works, Fusion 360, or comparable CAD software
- Experience taking physical products from prototype through production
- Knowledge of EVT, DVT, and PVT product development cycles
- Practical experience with DFM, DFA, tolerance analysis, and engineering drawings
- Experience designing sheet metal and injection-molded components
- Understanding of thermal, vibration, environmental, and structural design considerations
- Familiarity with basic electrical concepts and laboratory equipment
- Strong hands-on prototyping and troubleshooting abilities
- Ability to make progress when requirements are incomplete or still evolving
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate across several engineering work streams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Skills:
- Comfortable using basic electrical lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, to support product bring-up and troubleshooting
- Experience developing systems-level hardware products rather than working exclusively on individual components
- Background with consumer electronics, cameras, IoT devices,…
