Staff Electrical Engineer, Multiport NPD

We are seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer to contribute towards complex mixed signal designs for next-generation surgical robotic systems. The person in this position will work closely with Electrical, Firmware, Software, and Mechanical Engineers and develop designs for upcoming production versions of Intuitive products.

Essential Job Duties

  • Collaborate in a cross-functional team to develop requirements and specifications for new designs.
  • Implement detailed designs in schematic form and see design through layout.
  • Collaborate with Firmware and Software engineering to bring-up designs and test functionality.
  • Solicit feedback and implement iterative improvements on designs based on DFM/DFA/DFT, serviceability, reliability, longevity, and performance.
  • Develop and execute test protocols and verify designs meet requirements and specifications.
  • Collaborate with NPI and other engineering functions to transition designs into production.
  • Contribute towards system level design decisions.
  • Act as a technical lead within the group and mentor more junior members.

Required Skills and Experience

  • At least 12 years of board design experience (or 10 years with Master's and 7 years with PhD), taking designs from concept all the way to production.
  • Mixed signal board level PCA/PCB design.
  • Experience implementing mechatronics circuits or other motor control.
  • Familiarity with designing point of load power regulation and switched mode power supplies alongside sensitive analog circuits.
  • Ability to lead departmental and cross-functional projects and teams.
  • Proven debug skills.
  • Design for electromagnetic compliance (EMC).
  • Transmission line theory and signal integrity.
  • Familiarity with cables, connectors, PCB materials, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Demonstrated record of effectively taking the lead in communicating with and influencing senior stakeholders on technical decisions and project goals/timelines.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Fluent in OrCAD and Allegro schematic and layout software (or equivalent).
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g. JavaScript, Python, etc.) or embedded

    C.
  • Some experience with Verilog and FPGA design flows.
