Director or Senior Director of Cost Accounting
Our client, a high-growth AI hardware and infrastructure company, is hiring a Director or Senior Director of Cost Accounting to build and scale cost accounting and inventory processes in a rapidly evolving environment.
Location: This position is based in Sunnyvale, CA, and requires three days per week onsite.
Job DescriptionThis is a highly visible leadership role with significant influence across Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Engineering, and FP&A, and will play a key part in strengthening controls and readiness for external reporting.
Responsibilities- Design and implement scalable cost accounting strategies aligned with company growth and public-company readiness
- Establish costing policies, procedures, and internal controls in partnership with Supply Chain and Operations
- Lead month-end and quarter-end close activities for cost accounting, inventory, and related reserves
- Own product, system, and service costing methodologies across complex hardware systems and compute infrastructure
- Manage cost allocations to products, services, and programs with clear audit-ready support
- Oversee inventory valuation, excess and obsolete analysis, and manufacturing accruals
- Partner with Manufacturing and Supply Chain to analyze BOMs, yields, labor, overhead, and supplier pricing
- Support capacity planning, volume analysis, and make-or-buy decisions
- Develop and maintain cost center budgets, headcount models, and allocation methodologies
- Own accounting and cost modeling for fixed assets related to the data center and compute infrastructure
- Establish capitalization policies, useful lives, depreciation approaches, and impairment considerations
- Create and maintain compute and infrastructure cost allocation frameworks covering usage, overhead, depreciation, and support costs
- Support unit economics, margin analysis, and pricing decisions for infrastructure and services offerings
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX expectations, and internal policies
- Prepare costing and inventory analyses to support external auditors and reporting requirements
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives and ad hoc analyses as business priorities evolve
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 10 or more years of progressive cost accounting experience in manufacturing, hardware, or other capital-intensive environments
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, inventory accounting, costing methodologies, and fixed asset accounting
- Experience building complex allocation models and supporting audit-ready documentation and controls
- Hands-on ERP and manufacturing systems experience, including platforms such as Oracle or Net Suite
