Job DescriptionJob Summary
The Relief Mental Health Clinician shall collaborate with the multi-disciplinary treatment team in a psychiatric outpatient clinic setting to improve the health and well‑being of pediatric patients and their families through the provision of crisis intervention services, individual, family and group psychotherapy and case management. Services and supports shall be provided in accordance with policies, procedures and protocols and standards of practice established by LPCHS as well as pertinent licensing and other regulatory requirements.
EssentialFunctions
- Assists with the diagnosis and assessment of patients and families who receive mental health services and support at the outpatient clinic.
- Develops and updates treatment plans with the patient and/or family that address identified areas of need.
- Implements interventions including individual, family and group psychotherapy services.
- Provides case management support when needed including resource coordination and community referral.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings to ensure well‑coordinated and integrated care.
- Provides crisis intervention services in partnership with appropriate members of the care team when necessary to stabilize the patient and family.
- Maintains current documentation of assessment, treatment, referral and termination of services vis’‑a’ vis the individual treatment plan that comply with LPCHS standards and payer requirements.
- Provides needed psychiatric diagnosis and other clinical information to submit claims to third party payers.
- Involves child and adult protective services and law enforcement according to established legal reporting mandates.
- Coordinates with other providers and systems such as primary care providers, schools, community mental health and child welfare to ensure cross-system coordination of care.
- Maintains knowledge of evidence‑based practices application to the patient populations served.
- Participates in regular supervision with Social Work Manager to ensure quality, professional growth and ethical practice.
- Provides in‑service presentations to staff as needed or required.
- Provides community service information as an outreach worker such as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education:
Master’s degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or closely related degree program as approved by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences from an accredited college or university. - Experience:
Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience. - License/Certification:
Valid license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
- Ability to apply theories, principles and practices of medical social work and of social services delivery systems in a hospital or medical center setting.
- Ability to gather data needed to assess needs of patients and families.
- Ability to manage a caseload, recall case details; maintain confidentiality of information; determine the appropriate course of action in emergencies and other stressful situations.
- Ability to provide written case narratives and reports.
- Ability to work with multicultural groups.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply effective psychiatric assessment, interviewing, and counseling techniques.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply social work theories, principles and techniques.
- Knowledge of community and medical center resources to access and provide for patient care needs, and act on behalf of client needs to obtain necessary services.
