Essential Functions

Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

  • Acts as a consultant on orthopedic procedures and policies.
  • As necessary, accurately sets up traction and maintains traction beds.
  • Carries out all responsibilities in a pleasant, courteous and cooperative manner.
  • Conducts all communication (verbal and written) in an effective, accurate, courteous manner.
  • Contributes in a positive manner to the unit, department and hospital goals.
  • Effectively communicates and interacts with patients, families, staff and members of the community from diverse backgrounds.
  • Effectively maintains and manages their respective clinical area and performs required duties on a daily basis.
  • Establishes and facilitates appropriate working relationships between the orthopedic area and work areas of the Hospital (nursing units, ED, OR, Clinic).
  • Follows unit and departmental guidelines related to staffing and scheduling.
  • Initiates problem‑solving techniques on a timely basis.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of materials and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience

Six (6) months of orthopedic experience or successful completion of education/training in casting.

License/Certification
  • Basic Life Support by American Heart Association (AHA)
  • or
  • RQI Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support
KNOWLEDGE
  • Ability to demonstrate customer service skills in interactions with all patients, families and staff, including high volume and stressful situations.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus.
  • Ability to solve problems and identify solutions.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively at a level appropriate for the job.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.
  • Knowledge of new technologies (in specific field) and maintain and stay abreast of updates and changes.
