Map Data Annotation & Quality Review Specialist

Sunnyvale, CA

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Map Data Annotation & Quality Review Specialist to support the creation and validation of high-quality map labeling datasets. This role involves manual annotation, visual quality assurance, and reviewing geospatial imagery to ensure accuracy and consistency across mapping products.

The ideal candidate is meticulous, unbiased in judgment, and comfortable working on repetitive, detail-heavy tasks while maintaining a high standard of quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform manual annotation and labeling of map and image-based datasets
  • Conduct visual quality assurance (QA) and content review of geospatial imagery
  • Identify and document inconsistencies such as alignment errors, missing elements, and visual defects
  • Review road elements (e.g., bike lanes, intersections, traffic features) for accuracy and completeness
  • Follow rubric-driven review processes to ensure consistency and standardization
  • Maintain high-quality output with a focus on accuracy over speed
  • Escalate ambiguous or unclear cases to supervisors for further review
  • Collaborate with team members and leadership to resolve data discrepancies
Required Qualifications
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistency in judgment
  • Excellent reading and writing skills
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks with sustained focus and accuracy
  • Basic technical proficiency, including command line usage (e.g., Bash)
  • Installing packages and running basic scripts
  • Familiarity with structured review or rubric-based evaluation processes
  • Ability to remain objective and unbiased when reviewing content
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with map or geospatial data (e.g., reviewing maps or satellite imagery)
  • Familiarity with road features and infrastructure (bike lanes, intersections, etc.)
  • Experience identifying visual inconsistencies or defects in image data
  • Experience with annotation tools (e.g., Labelbox, CBAT, or similar platforms)
  • Basic programming experience (e.g., Python)
  • Prior experience with Google Maps or similar mapping platforms
Candidate Profile
  • Recent graduates (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in relevant fields such as Computer Science, Geography, GIS, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply
  • Demonstrates strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Proactive in escalating issues and seeking clarification when needed
