Job Overview

Sales Engineer – Matterport, located in Sunnyvale or Irvine, CA. This role supports the accelerating global demand for Matterport’s spatial computing platform and solutions, serving as a strategic technical advisor to both internal sales teams and executive-level customers.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary technical authority for assigned sales opportunities, including inside sales, field, and major accounts.
  • Advise executive-level customer stakeholders on architectural decisions, security posture, integrations, and long‑term platform strategy.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to internal sales leadership on deal strategy, risk assessment, and solution positioning.
  • Define and lead advanced solution architectures, custom integrations, and proof‑of‑concept engagements that address ambiguous, multi‑system customer requirements.
  • Follow technical standards for demonstrations, pilots, and solution validation efforts across the Sales Engineering organization.
  • Own and guide resolution of non‑standard, high‑risk technical challenges with accountability for outcomes that impact revenue and customer trust.
  • Influence company‑wide technical selling strategy, including security, integrations, data workflows, and platform extensibility.
  • Provide authoritative field insight to Product Management, Marketing, Security, and R&D to shape roadmap prioritization and competitive differentiation.
  • Design and deliver advanced technical training programs for Sales Engineers, Account Executives, and strategic partners.
  • Lead enterprise‑level security, privacy, and compliance discussions with customers and partners, acting as a technical escalation point.
  • Represent Matterport as a technical thought leader at industry events, executive briefings, webinars, and conferences.
  • Engage with strategic partners and ecosystem vendors to define joint solution approaches and integration strategies.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited, not‑for‑profit, in‑person college or university.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting B2B SaaS solutions in a pre‑sales or technical support capacity, with a track record of enterprise‑level impact.
  • Exceptional executive‑level communication skills, with the ability to influence technical and non‑technical stakeholders across functions and seniority levels.
  • Experience with APIs, SDKs, and custom integrations, including hands‑on prototyping using JavaScript and GraphQL.
  • Advanced understanding of 3D data types (models, point clouds, imagery) and the workflows customers use to operationalize spatial data.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, security architecture, and authentication technologies (e.g., AWS, SAML, OAuth).
  • Working understanding of machine learning and AI concepts as applied to data‑driven products.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% as business needs require.
  • Current and valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive expertise in reality capture technologies and the competitive landscape.
  • Deep knowledge of the Matterport platform, ecosystem integrations, and partner offerings.
  • Advanced familiarity with 3D modeling, visualization, and construction/engineering platforms such as Autodesk, Sketch Up, Procore, Plan Grid, Unity, Unreal Engine, or similar.
  • Experience shaping technical strategy for large partners or enterprise customers.
  • Recognized externally or internally as a subject matter expert in spatial data or related technologies.
