AV Fleet Technician
The AV Fleet Technician serves as the onsite technical support resource for centralized Software and Hardware Engineering teams. Based at a regional vehicle depot, this role is responsible for maintaining operational readiness, performing diagnostics, troubleshooting system issues, and supporting the deployment of autonomous vehicle data collection fleets.
This position requires hands-on technical expertise in hardware, software, and electromechanical systems. Technicians will monitor system alerts, collaborate with remote engineering teams, execute detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and troubleshoot complex hardware and software integrations on autonomous vehicle platforms.
Smart Remote Hands Support- Serve as the onsite eyes, ears, and hands for remote engineering teams.
- Perform physical diagnostics, sensor replacements, and manual interventions on vehicle platforms.
- Execute technical procedures and provide real-time feedback during troubleshooting efforts.
- Perform validation, testing, and firmware flashing procedures for autonomous vehicle sensor systems, including:
- LiDAR
- Radar
- Cameras
- IMUs
- Validate vehicle compute units and supporting hardware.
- Execute physical and software-based calibration procedures.
- Perform target and chart alignments.
- Conduct intrinsic and extrinsic sensor calibrations to ensure accurate data collection.
- Monitor collaboration tools, ticketing systems, and telemetry dashboards for:
- System alerts
- Hardware faults
- Depot support requests
- Escalate issues and coordinate with engineering teams as needed.
- Flash firmware and update drivers.
- Install software packages and execute validation scripts.
- Utilize Linux command-line tools to prepare vehicles for operational deployment.
- Record calibration activities, test results, uptime metrics, and maintenance activities.
- Track vehicle components, sensors, and inventory assets within designated systems.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in:
- Hardware validation
- Enterprise hardware maintenance
- Electronics repair
- Electromechanical troubleshooting
- Technical testing environments
- Experience working with complex hardware systems including autonomous vehicles, robotics, aerospace, defense technology, manufacturing systems, or similar technologies.
- Proficiency with Linux command-line environments (Ubuntu/Debian preferred).
- Ability to:
- Review system logs
- Monitor processes
- Perform network diagnostics
- Execute validation scripts
- Basic understanding of Bash and Python scripting.
- Demonstrated ability to isolate and resolve issues involving:
- Mechanical failures
- Cable and connector faults
- Network connectivity issues
- Firmware and software mismatches
- Ability to work full-time onsite.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Comfortable working around vehicles, test equipment, and calibration rigs.
- Ability to bend, reach, and perform hands-on technical tasks.
- Ability to support alternative shifts, evening coverage, and weekend schedules as business needs require.
1. AV & Sensor Triage / Maintenance
- Perform hands-on diagnostics and troubleshooting.
- Conduct sensor replacements and repairs.
- Support power distribution and harness repairs on vehicle platforms.
- Utilize Linux command-line tools to:
- Review system logs
- Monitor active processes
- Execute validation scripts
- Flash firmware
- Manage network interfaces
- Perform calibration procedures for LiDAR, Radar, Camera, and GPS/IMU systems.
- Maintain accurate asset tracking and inventory records.
- Experience supporting autonomous vehicle fleets, depot operations, or ADAS maintenance programs.
- Hands-on experience performing calibration and alignment activities for:
- LiDAR
- Radar
- Cameras
- GPS/IMU systems
- Ability to read and troubleshoot basic Bash and Python scripts.
- Experience reviewing and improving SOPs.
- Ability to support onboarding and mentoring of new technicians.
- Experience serving as an escalation resource for technical issues.
