Sr. Supplier Quality Engineer , Amazon Leo

Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, with a system designed for a wide range of customers from households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies. The Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) is responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and compliance of critical electronics components sourced from a global supplier base.

The ideal candidate is a systems thinker with strong analytical abilities, technical skills, and effective written and verbal communication who is passionate about developing a global supply base to produce high-quality, mission-critical hardware in volume production.

Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities
  • The SQE leads supplier qualification, audits, process controls, failure analysis and continuous improvement to ensure robust, repeatable, and compliant manufacturing across the supply chain.
  • Define and scale Leo’s quality system to ensure early detection of process excursions, improving product reliability and wafer component yields in volume manufacturing.
  • Lead root-cause analysis for supplier and internal defects including test failures; oversee screening and qualification flows (burn-in, thermal cycling, solderability, SEM/EDS, x-Ray, and other advanced failure investigation techniques).
  • Ability to influence suppliers and drive performance improvements.
  • Own systems, tools, and processes used to manage device traceability and key quality/test metrics.
  • Represent Leo Supplier Quality in cross-functional initiatives.
  • Travel as needed to accomplish program objectives.
  • AS9100D Lead Auditor Trained/Certified.
  • Direct experience deploying JEDEC/IPC/APQP/PPAP methodologies per AS9145 or equivalent standards.
A day in the life
  • Collaborates with product development teams as owner of Component quality system requirements.
  • Acts with internal customer focus on behalf of Leo Production by improving reliability, reducing defect rates and driving failure analysis.
  • Serves as the face of Quality for and with component suppliers, communicating expectations and resolving issues.
  • Facilitates Component quality as a subject matter expert in supplier qualification, device traceability and statistical process control.
  • Leads resolution of quality events utilizing structured failure analysis tools.

The Leo Supplier Quality team develops a vendor base capable of scaling aerospace quality to new volume and cost levels to meet end customer needs. The team values data-driven decision making, comfort with ambiguity across multiple projects, trust with stakeholders, and delivering results with integrity.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience with analog, digital, and high-speed circuit design.
  • 5+ years of experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures.
  • Background in aerospace, satellite hardware, or telecom infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of plating processes, die/package assembly, bonding and contamination control at device and PCB level.
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of IEEE standards applicable to electrical components and interconnect.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package includes sign-on payments and RSUs. Final compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
