The Research Scientist II is responsible for driving laboratory operations and collaborating with a cross-functional team to push innovation forward in the Emerging Technologies Team. This is a unique opportunity to join a growing and creative team to help push the boundaries of oligonucleotide synthesis technologies.
This position reports to the Sr. Staff Scientist and is part of the Emerging Technologies Team located in Sunnyvale, CA and will be an on-site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Operate and maintain QC analysis of oligonucleotides (e.g. LC-MS, capillary electrophoresis, PCR, UV/vis quantification).
- Run and troubleshoot oligonucleotide synthesizers to support method development and scale-up, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to support experimental design, data analysis, and reporting.
- Order and manage inventory of reagents, consumables, and lab supplies to ensure uninterrupted workflow.
- Adhere to Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) protocols and promote a culture of safety and compliance.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or a related field.
- 2 or more years of hands-on experience in oligonucleotide synthesis or analytical chemistry, preferably in an R&D setting.
- Proficiency in LC-MS (ESI) operation and data interpretation.
- Ability to collaborate with engineers to safely operate custom and prototype tools and equipment.
Physical/Environment Requirements:
- Ability to occasionally lift, move or carry equipment up to 10lb
- Ability to frequently work in a laboratory environment for extended periods
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- NGS sample preparation and operation of NGS instruments.
- Knowledge of one or more scripting languages (e.g. Python).
- Fluorescence imaging and use of plate readers.

The annual salary range for this role is $100,000 - $120,000. This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
