Job Overview

Engineering Manager – Threat Detection Engineering & Threat Research Teams

HPE Threat Labs seeks an experienced engineering manager to lead the threat detection engineering team and the threat research team, ensuring both technical innovation and operational excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Wear dual hats: oversee software engineering projects to implement threat detection technologies on HPE’s Advanced Threat Prevention Cloud and on the SRX Next Gen firewall.
  • Lead the threat research team in delivering industry‑leading research into wild threats, building actionable threat intelligence for HPE security products, prototyping detection methods, and publishing thought leadership through blogs, conference presentations, and other public materials.
  • Manage headcount, deliverables, schedules, and costs for multiple concurrent projects, ensuring alignment with program and organizational roadmaps.
  • Engage with program managers, marketing, supply chain, technical leaders and executives to communicate status, resolve issues, and influence strategic decisions.
  • Maintain relationships with outsourced partners and suppliers, setting expectations on deliverables, quality, schedules, and costs.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
  • Handle people‑care management for direct reports: hiring, performance planning, coaching, career development, and fostering performance standards across the organization.
  • Participate in live and recorded broadcasts and media interviews, showcasing HPE’s threat initiatives.
Education And Experience Required
  • First level university degree or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced university degree preferred.
  • Typically 10+ years of relevant work experience, including 5+ years of people‑management experience.
Knowledge And Skills
  • Hands‑on experience designing and implementing cybersecurity solutions.
  • Deep knowledge of the threat landscape and detection techniques.
  • Experience designing and implementing threat detection methods.
  • History of publishing cybersecurity blogs.
  • Ability to drive threat research toward actionable security outcomes.
  • Creative thinking and initiative to advance HPE Threat Labs goals.
  • Advanced leadership, coaching, teambuilding, conflict resolution.
  • Advanced project management: time, risk, resource prioritization, and structuring.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
