Area Security Manager – Northern California

Job Summary

Amazon Corporate Security seeks an experienced, self‑motivated leader who embodies Amazon’s Leadership Principles—particularly Customer Obsession, Ownership, Earn Trust, and Bias for Action—to manage all corporate security functions across a region of North California. The Area Security Manager reports to a Regional Security Manager and is responsible for implementing, overseeing, and continuously improving all elements of the Corporate Security program at each site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver best‑in‑class security services to enhance the safety of all Amazon employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Line‑manage security professionals and daily operations at diverse sites with unique requirements.
  • Implement and refine security plans, policies, and programs.
  • Coordinate and trigger incident response plans.
  • Respond to customer security concerns and provide timely communication with stakeholders at tactical and strategic levels.
  • Monitor external threat environments and devise measures to minimize business security risk.
  • Align ACS metrics, goals, and strategic direction across the geographic area to support the team mission.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and subject‑matter expert, engaging with stakeholders and external partners.
  • Build and maintain relationships with peers in other security functions to close gaps and share best practices.
A Day in the Life
  • Oversee guarding operations and hold vendors accountable for quality of service, seeking cost efficiencies.
  • Coordinate with internal and external security partners, including local law enforcement.
  • Develop and monitor performance metrics to improve system and site performance.
  • Develop and deliver plans to close security control gaps based on risk assessments.
  • Conduct site security assessments, track trends, and implement systemic improvements.
  • Lead drills, tabletop exercises, and security readiness activities across sites.
  • Manage cross‑functional projects and drive teams to meet program and product goals.
  • Investigate and triage incidents, collaborating with specialist security teams.
  • Provide corporate security support to events and maintain business continuity plans.
  • Monitor installation and commissioning of physical security devices; manage vendor engagements.
Basic Qualifications
  • Experience in project/contract management.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Criminal Justice, Security, Law Enforcement, Business Management, Accounting, International Relations or equivalent professional experience.
  • 7+ years in security within a global corporate environment or large organization (e.g., military, intelligence, police, or public sector).
  • 5+ years in a leadership or management role.
  • Experience managing third‑party service providers and vendors.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • Professional certifications such as CPP, PSP, CISSP, PMP, or equivalent.
  • Understanding of crisis operations, risk management, and crisis communication best practices.
  • Substantial experience in physical security operations and related technologies.
  • Proficiency in measuring SLA/KPI metrics and conducting security‑related trend analysis.
  • Knowledge of business continuity concepts and the Incident Command System.
