Position: Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence: Coordinator of Housing Services

Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence is looking for a Coordinator of Housing Services, a vital role within the Community Support Advocacy team. This position involves ensuring that advocate activities align with program needs, which include crisis counseling, risk assessment, and long-term support aimed at preventing homelessness. The Coordinator will guide advocates in challenging situations, set quality standards across the agency, and act as a role model and trainer.

Collaborating with other Coordinators and Associate Directors, this role is essential to providing vital support services to the community, fostering a healthy environment focused on empowering survivors and enhancing community safety.

Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence (NDS) is a pioneering agency dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence since 1971, when founder Bea Robinson Mendez and her friends established a shelter in a garage in response to a critical need for services. As the second domestic violence agency in California and the first bilingual shelter in the nation, we have transformed the lives of countless individuals.

Serving as Santa Clara County’s only stand-alone domestic violence agency, we respond to approximately 15,000 crisis calls each year and assist around 3,000 survivors annually. Our comprehensive, compassionate services are offered free of charge to all individuals, regardless of gender identity or ability, ensuring that everyone has access to the support they need.

Responsibilities

Coordinate schedules for Advocates to ensure adequate coverage for housing applications, searches, accompaniment, interpretation/translation, workshops, and other support matters

Build and maintain relationships with community partners and landlords with a focus on housing needs of participants

Provide survivor-centered housing and intervention services to participants, focusing on complex survivor situations in an experienced and organizational values-based manner

Provide orientation, safety planning, risk assessment services to survivors

Coordinate expansion of support groups in the community to our pre-pandemic number of 18 plus add new groups in each of these three cities:
Mountain View, Sunnyvale, and Campbell.

Create and participate in training of advocates, community, and partners, including outreach requests and domestic violence counselor training

Create and maintain appropriate participant records, notes, and documentation, including database entry

Collaborate with other coordinators to ensure quality service

Represent NDS with exceptional expertise and poise in related ongoing and individual community meetings, as appropriate

Participate in community committees and liaison with other DV and community agencies

Work with other leadership to provide strategic thinking to support NDS in better meeting the needs of the survivors and ensure seamless system of well-coordinated services

Advocate for participants and work collaboratively with values-aligned systems, courts, county departments and other related agencies

Support, create, and maintain a working environment that aligns with the organizations’ values

Maintain up-to-date knowledge and education related to domestic violence laws, trends, and other related topics

Attend all supervision, internal and external meetings decided by the team, including All Hands, 1:1 Check-ins, full leadership, and Direct Service meetings

Maintain efficient, timely, and values-aligned communication through calls, messaging, email, and chat for participants and collaborative staff

Create and navigate “warm “referrals/resources/connections with community in order foster connection and to meet participant needs

Serve as emergency backup for issues related to survivors, staffing, community office, mobile advocacy, and shelter

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Bachelors’ degree in related field plus 4 years’ experience in the domestic violence or related social justice work OR at least 5 years’ experience in the domestic violence/social justice work.

Knowledge and interest in social justice intersections.

Commitment to the elimination of violence against women and girls.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Supervisory experience.

Clean driving record and reliable transportation.

Ability to relate well to people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.

California Domestic Violence Counselor certification (40+-hour training).

Cultural responsiveness, humility, and sensitivity

Must be available for occasional evening assignments
