Position Summary
Build the next generation of Walmart’s Nutrition Hub—an incubation product evolving into a scalable platform used across Walmart. As a Principal Software Engineer, you’ll own a critical slice of the product end-to-end, shaping architecture and delivering cloud-native services and APIs that power personalized healthy‑eating experiences. You’ll be hands‑on in Java and Graph
QL, partnering closely with product and engineering leaders to turn ambiguous problems into reliable, measurable outcomes for millions of customers.
- As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the technical design, development, and deployment of cutting‑edge software solutions on Walmart’s Web and cloud platform.
- You will work closely with cross‑functional product, engineering, and data science teams to plan, design, build, test, and deploy scalable, secure, high‑performance APIs and web applications using React, Node.js, SQL, Kubernetes, and Cloud technologies.
- You will develop and execute CI/CD pipelines to automate testing, build, deployment, and monitoring of these software applications.
- You will mentor engineers, providing guidance, support, and feedback to ensure high‑quality codebase and best practices.
- Incubation: includes Walmart Everyday Health Signals (EHS), a health insights product, and Walmart's Nutrition Hub, which supports personalized healthy eating powered by EHS
- Digital Business Services: includes customer identity, digital engagement, and business analytics to support health and wellness lines of business
- 8+ years of experience in leading technical teams or equivalent experience as a Technical Lead or Staff/Senior Software Engineer with focus on web, e-commerce, consumer health and engagement platforms.
- Proven track record in incubating, developing, and monitoring high‑performance APIs and web applications using React, Node.js, SQL, deployed with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes on cloud.
- Strong understanding of database systems, specifically SQL, and experience with data modeling and design.
- Strong understanding of data analysis, logging, metrics monitoring, and A/B testing.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills to mentor engineers and lead cross‑functional teams to delivery of solutions.
This role is based on‑site in Sunnyvale, California. At Walmart, we offer competitive pay as well as performance‑based bonus awards and other benefits. The annual salary range for this position is $ - $. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include Stock.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
- 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
- Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
