Overview

We are seeking a talented and passionate Senior, Software Engineer (Back End) to join the Catalog Engineering team. Your role will involve developing a high‑performance, scalable Catalog Service for millions of Walmart customers, designing integrations with next‑generation downstream applications, and working within a micro‑service architecture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design & develop highly scalable services and solve complex software systems problems by leveraging state‑of‑the‑art technology to enhance Walmart Catalog and Partner experience solutions.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating deep technical expertise and exceptional development skills.
  • Troubleshoot business and production issues by gathering information and engaging support teams to resolve challenges.
  • Perform root cause analysis to prevent future incidents and ensure compliance with Walmart code of conduct.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members while enforcing Walmart code of conduct.
  • Work in an Agile environment, adhering to best practices and collaborating with teams to deliver results.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest GenAI trends and technologies, contributing to innovative solutions that improve the Seller and Supplier experience on the Catalog platform.
  • Participate in medium‑to‑large‑scale, complex, cross‑functional projects by reviewing requirements, designing scalable architectures, writing code, conducting unit testing, communicating status and issues, collaborating with cross‑functional teams, troubleshooting open issues and bug‑fixes, enhancing design to prevent reoccurrences of defects, and ensuring on‑time delivery.
What You'll Bring
  • Expert‑level knowledge of Java and experience building Java‑based backend systems.
  • Experience building and implementing microservices and applications using Spring Boot and reactive frameworks such as Spring Web Flux and Project Reactor (Mono and Flux).
  • Experience with internet‑scale distributed technologies (e.g., Solr, Kafka, Mem Cache, etc.).
  • Deep understanding of Spark engine.
  • Strong understanding of J2EE components, multithreading, and networking.
  • Extensive knowledge of offline storage, caching, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with cloud‑based solutions and hands‑on experience with CICD development environments/tools, including Git, Maven, and Jenkins.
  • Strong understanding of CS fundamentals, microservices, data structures, algorithms, and problem solving.
  • Experience with No

    SQL databases such as Cosmos DB and Cassandra, with the ability to design and implement scalable data models.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud‑native development, and microservices architecture.
  • Experience with containerization using Docker and orchestration using Kubernetes.
  • Strong understanding of Dev Ops practices, including continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous monitoring.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • OR 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year’s experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Knowledge and experience in creating inclusive digital experiences, implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
