Role SummaryWe are seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to join the Catalog Spec Engineering team at our Sunnyvale, CA office. The role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining high‑performance catalog services that support millions of Walmart customers.
What You’ll Do- Design and develop highly scalable services, solving complex software system problems using state‑of‑the‑art technology.
- Troubleshoot business and production issues, gathering information and collaborating with support teams to resolve them.
- Perform root‑cause analysis to prevent recurring issues and ensure compliance with Walmart code of conduct.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
- Work in an agile environment, adhering to best practices and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver results.
- Stay up to date with GenAI trends and technologies, contributing to innovative solutions for the seller and supplier experience.
- Participate in medium‑ to large‑scale, complex cross‑functional projects, ensuring on‑time delivery.
- 6–8 years of experience as a senior software engineer.
- Expert‑level knowledge of Java and experience building Java‑based back‑end systems.
- Extensive experience with microservices and applications using Spring Boot and reactive frameworks such as Spring Web Flux.
- Experience with internet‑scale distributed technologies (e.g., Solr, Kafka, Memcached).
- Strong understanding of JEE components, multithreading, and networking.
- Extensive knowledge of offline storage, caching, and performance tuning.
- Experience with cloud‑based solutions and CI/CD tools including Git, Maven, and Jenkins.
- Strong understanding of CS fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, and problem‑solving.
- Experience with AI/ML technologies.
- Experience with No
SQL databases such as Cosmos
DB and Cassandra; ability to design scalable data models.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or related field and 3 years’ experience in software engineering, or
- 5 years’ experience in software engineering.
- Master’s degree in a related field and 1 year of experience, or
- Experience creating inclusive digital experiences and knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA standards and assistive technologies.
Competitive salary (USD 117,000 – 234,000) plus annual or quarterly performance bonuses, stock options, 401(k) match, paid time off, health, vision, and dental coverage.
