We are seeking a talented and passionate Senior Engineering Manager; you will lead a team of high-performing engineers responsible for building intuitive and scalable platform that meet the needs of millions of Walmart customers. Design and develop integrations with next generation downstream application that is built largely on an event driven platform implemented via a micro-service architecture. You'll be a key enabler in Walmart Global Tech's broader strategy to integrate Agentic AI - AI systems that can operate with autonomy, context awareness, and goal-driven behavior - into platform architecture, operations, and user experiences.
This role is for hands-on leaders who can architect, lead, and grow backend engineering teams to deliver impactful business features. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Program, and Platform to define, execute, and support large-scale services and applications.

About the Team Join the innovative Walmart Catalog team, where creativity and technological innovation drive success. We specialize in enhancing Seller and supplier experiences in setting up their catalog and managing Catalog platform. Our tech stack includes Java for backend services, providing an exciting opportunity for growth and collaboration.
Our Catalog Engineering team has built a highly scalable Catalog Service. You will work on Next Gen upstream integration, catalog migration to a new platform, and develop highly scalable catalog micro services. You'll independently handle high impact, critical software/systems monitoring issues, troubleshoot business and production issues. As a member of this fast-moving and highly entrepreneurial team, you'll be able to say that you work for the world's largest retailer and contribute to innovation and development to best-in-class methodologies that impacted perception and drastically changed business as we know it.

* What you'll do:
* Build, coach, and lead a high-performing team of backend engineers.
* Drive team hiring, career development, performance evaluation, and succession planning.
* Foster a culture of ownership, technical excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
* Own architecture and delivery of scalable microservices
* Drive design and implementation of cloud-native, event-driven systems that meet throughput, SLA, and uptime requirements.
* Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to engineering best practices and standards.
* Lead sprint planning, execution, and review cycles in partnership with PM and TPM teams.
* Lead by example. Show your chops as an exceptional and experienced developer.
* Troubleshoot business and production issues by gathering information and engaging support teams to resolve issues
* Perform root cause analysis to prevent future occurrence of issues and ensure compliance with Walmart code of conduct
* Work in an Agile environment, adhering to best practices and collaborating with teams to deliver results
* Stay up-to-date with the latest GenAI trends and technologies and contribute to the development of innovative solutions that improve the Seller and supplier experience on our Catalog platform.
* Participate in medium- to large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects by reviewing project, product and business requirements; translating requirements into technical solutions; gathering requested information (for example, design documents, product requirement); designing robust and scalable architectures; writing and developing code; conducting unit testing; communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders; collaborating with cross functional teams; troubleshooting open issues and bug-fixes;
enhancing design to prevent re-occurrences of defects; ensuring on-time delivery
What you'll bring:
* Hands-on technical expertise with proven experience in architecture, design, and end-to-end implementation across the stack, along with strong skills in effective communication, collaboration, mentorship, leadership, and Agile methodologies.
* Expert-level knowledge of Java and experience building Java-based backend systems.
* Experience in internet-scale distributed technologies (e.g. Solr, Kafka, Mem Cache, etc.)
* Deep understanding of Spark engine
* Strong understanding of J2EE components, multithreading, and networking.
* Extensive knowledge of offline storage, caching, and performance tuning.
* Experience with cloud-based solutions and hands-on experience with CICD development environments/tools, including Git, Maven, and Jenkins.
* Strong understanding of CS Fundamentals, Microservices, Data Structures, Algorithms, and Problem Solving.
* Familiarity with GenAI best practices, such as:
Using AI-powered code analysis tools to improve code quality and maintainability.
Implementing AI-driven testing frameworks to ensure robust testing and validation. Leveraging AI-based performance monitoring and optimization tools…
