Senior Software Engineer

On the Membership Experience Engineering team at Walmart, we provide technology to power shopping journeys that help hundreds of millions of customers live better. Walmart+ is pioneering the online and in‑store shopping experience. We are looking for an experienced engineer to design and improve customer membership experience and build a scalable platform.

• Help build the next generation of platform supporting Walmart+; create applications that serve over 100 million customers; build high‑volume servers to support the business.
• Build highly scalable, performant solutions; apply advanced knowledge of algorithms and core computer science concepts.
• Make architectural decisions without direct assistance and recognize patterns from different areas of computer science in production systems.
• Employ deep knowledge of data processing, programming languages, databases, networking and operating systems.
• Design and implement efficient monitoring systems for cloud services in production.
• Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing sources of issues and their impact on service operations and quality.
• Develop tools and contribute to automation of repetitive tasks to improve productivity and reduce errors/incidents.
• Provide 5% travel to domestic/international locations.
• Model compliance with company policies and support company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity.
• Troubleshoot production issues for back‑end services of the W+ platform.
• Design telemetry dashboards (Open Observe, Prometheus, or similar) to monitor the W+ platform.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define, design and ship new features.

• Experience designing and implementing RESTful microservices and stream‑processing services using Java 17/21, Spring Boot, Maven and Tomcat 9.
• Deep knowledge of Java, ensuring high performance and reliability.
• Expertise in creating and optimizing database schemas, applying best practices and design patterns.
• Experience writing comprehensive unit and functional tests with JUnit and Mockito.
• Experience with RDBMS, distributed and in‑memory cache for application development.
• Knowledge of e‑commerce web‑based applications: profile membership, cart, shipping, payment and order management.
• Ability to implement event‑driven architecture using Kafka.
• Proficiency with Git, cloud deployment and managing containerized workloads in Kubernetes.
• Configuring APM dashboards, alerting and monitoring with Grafana and Prometheus.
• Experience debugging and troubleshooting distributed applications in production.
• Working knowledge of private and public cloud technologies.
• Strong teamwork, critical thinking, problem‑solving, time‑management, interpersonal and communication skills.
