The Nursing Director – Med Surg / Telemetry is responsible for the clinical, operational, and financial leadership of the Medical‑Surgical and Telemetry units. This role ensures safe, high‑quality patient care while driving performance, staff engagement, regulatory compliance, and patient experience outcomes.
This leader partners closely with nursing leadership, physicians, and hospital executives to execute strategic initiatives, optimize staffing and productivity, and support a culture grounded in evidence‑based practice and professional nursing excellence.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical & Operational Leadership
- Provide overall leadership and direction for Med Surg and Telemetry nursing units
- Ensure delivery of safe, high‑quality, patient‑centered care
- Promote evidence‑based practice (EBP) and compliance with all regulatory requirements
- Maintain performance improvement initiatives to support quality, safety, and outcomes
- Demonstrate clinical proficiency and support professional nursing practice
People Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and support nurse managers and frontline leaders using evidence‑based leadership principles
- Ensure staff competency in nursing processes, clinical equipment, and unit‑specific practices
- Oversee orientation, ongoing education, in‑services, and continuing education programs
- Complete annual and probationary evaluations in a timely manner
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and high‑performing team culture
Strategic & Financial Management
- Develop and execute short‑ and long‑term operational plans aligned with hospital strategy
- Establish and manage departmental budgets and staffing productivity (HPPD)
- Monitor performance metrics and implement corrective actions as needed
Make informed decisions guided by resource availability and operational objectives
Patient Experience & Collaboration
- Partner with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to improve care delivery
- Engage patients and families in care planning and resolution of concerns
- Support initiatives to improve patient satisfaction and experience metrics
- Collaborate across departments to enhance care coordination and outcomes
Administrative & Executive Support
- Assist the Chief Nursing Officer as needed and serve in a leadership capacity during absence
- Lead policy and procedure development, review, and revision
- Support organizational mission, values, and professional nursing standards
- Active Texas RN license or compact (multistate) RN license in good standing
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
- Minimum of 5 years progressive acute care nursing leadership experience
- Demonstrated leadership experience within Med Surg and/or Telemetry environments
- Strong operational, clinical, and people leadership capabilities
- Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field
- National nursing leadership or specialty certification
- Full‑time, onsite leadership role
