Position Summary

The Commercial Electrical Apprentice/Helper assists licensed electricians with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems in commercial and industrial facilities. This role provides hands-on experience while developing the technical skills necessary to advance in the electrical trade. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, eager to learn, and able to work in a fast-paced construction environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist journeyman electricians and foremen with commercial electrical installations.
  • Pull wire, install conduit (EMT, PVC, and rigid), cable trays, boxes, and supports.
  • Assist with installing lighting systems, receptacles, switches, panels, transformers, and electrical equipment.
  • Measure, cut, bend, and assemble conduit using hand and power tools.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites.
  • Load, unload, organize, and transport materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Read and interpret basic blueprints, specifications, and electrical drawings under supervision.
  • Assist with troubleshooting electrical systems and equipment.
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and job site safety requirements.
  • Wear required PPE and maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Communicate professionally with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Reliable transportation to various job sites.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening, if required.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn the electrical trade.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, rooftops, and in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work overtime and occasional weekends as business needs require.
Preferred
  • Enrollment in or completion of an electrical apprenticeship program.
  • Registered Electrical Apprentice (where applicable by state).
  • Previous construction, commercial electrical, or trade experience.
  • Familiarity with basic hand and power tools.
  • OSHA 10 Certification.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds.
  • Stand, walk, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb for extended periods.
  • Work on ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts.
  • Perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to distinguish colors for electrical wiring identification.
