Overview
American Express is
seeking expert-level Platform Engineers
to support a highly visible initiative within their Enterprise Platforms organization. This role will work directly
with senior engineering leadership to design and implement AI-driven platform architecture that enhances
development lifecycle efficiency, automation, and scalability.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role focused on building
and optimizing end-to-end CI/CD/CT pipelines,
integrating modern AI tooling, and driving engineering productivity through
automation and intelligent systems.
Key
Responsibilities
- Partner directly with senior engineering leadership to design and evolve platform architecture
- Build and optimize end-to-end CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins and Git Hub Actions
- Develop and maintain automated release management processes, including production deployment pipelines
- Leverage AI tools and agent-based automation (e.g., Claude, Codex, AI-assisted workflows) to improve engineering efficiency
- Implement Jira and Git Hub integrations for automated workflows and traceability
- Design and maintain build systems using JVM ecosystem tools (Gradle, Maven)
- Drive automation of code reviews, Git Hub bots, and pipeline governance
- Incorporate cybersecurity practices including automated vulnerability scanning and secret detection
- Enable engineering productivity measurement through DORA metrics and other KPIs
- Support cloud-native platform development including Kubernetes, build packs, and cloud pipelines
- Act as a subject matter expert on platform engineering best practices, automation, and scalability
Qualifications
- 7+ years of enterprise-level experience in Platform Engineering, Dev Ops, or SRE
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Git Hub Actions)
- Build tools (Gradle, Maven)
- Version control & integrations (Git Hub, Jira)
- Proven experience designing and implementing end-to-end pipeline automation
- Experience with release management and deployment automation
- Exposure to or hands-on experience with AI-driven development tools / agent-based automation
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms and containerization (Kubernetes)
- Experience implementing security practices in pipelines (SAST, secret scanning, vulnerability management)
Qualifications
- Experience with AI agent orchestration and automation frameworks
- Familiarity with engineering productivity metrics (DORA)
- Experience building internal developer platforms at scale
- Strong background in highly regulated enterprise environments (financial services a plus)
- Direct exposure to VP/Principal-level engineering leadership

This is a Contract position based out of Sunrise, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $75.00/hr.
