The Technical Project Manager is a customer-facing, sales-aligned technical role that enables the successful sale and delivery of Heavy Lifting Systems. This position is a technical sales-enablement role focused on application accuracy, engineering integrity, and solution feasibility in support of commercial growth.
The role blends sales support, application engineering, and technical oversight to ensure safe, compliant, and high-performance below-the-hook lifting solutions across North America, Europe, and Asia. Success is measured by improved proposal accuracy, reduced technical risk, smoother project execution, and the ability to help Sales teams win complex HLS opportunities with confidence
Primary Responsibilities Sales & Applications Engineering- Engage early with Sales and customers to develop project scope, including load requirements, geometry, materials, lift frequency, duty cycles, existing crane, crane runway, crane capacity, and operating environments.
- Provide preliminary system sizing, application feasibility assessments, and configuration recommendations.
- Support customer meetings, technical discussions, and proposal development as the primary HLS technical resource.
- Translate customer and sales requirements into structured engineering scopes for outsourced engineering partners.
- Support Sales with technical validation, risk assessment, and solution alignment.
- Serve as the technical interface and project manager with external engineering and fabrication partners for configuration/customization, structural calculations, and detailed engineering design.
- Review and approve below-the-hook engineering drawings, calculations, and submittals.
- Manage project timelines and deliverables to ensure on-time delivery within budget.
- Ensure compliance with ASME BTH-1, CMAA, OSHA, and Magswitch internal safety standards, global standards, and SB30.20 (Below the hook lifting devices).
- Verify magnet selection, load paths, attachment design, safety factors, and review FEA when provided.
- Maintain models, documentation, and project status updates
- Build and maintain product records and BOMs within the ERP system.
- Deliver complete engineering packages to Project Management, including drawings, specifications, BOM inputs, and lift plans.
- Support service technicians and installation partners during commissioning or technical escalations (primarily remote).
- Coordinate across global time zones with suppliers, engineering partners, and internal teams.
- Lead internal design reviews and lessons-learned discussions.
- Begin developing internal engineering templates, documentation, and standards as a foundational OEM capability.
- Identify recurring application or installation issues and drive updates to engineering standards and design practices.
- Support efforts to standardize lifting system designs and reduce one-off customization where practical.
- Develop preventive maintenance (PM) programs and customer best-practice guidelines.
- Partner with Product Engineering to evolve the HLS portfolio based on field feedback and market needs.
- Improve technical documentation used for proposals, installations, and customer-facing materials.
- Develop and oversee a network of independent service providers that can service, install, and maintain the systems across our global locations.
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related technical field (required).
- Willingness to obtain PE licensure where appropriate and to establish and manage a network of licensed Professional Engineers authorized to review and stamp documents in accordance with applicable state requirements.
- Minimum of five years of experience in engineered-to-order equipment, lifting devices, cranes, rigging, automation, or heavy industrial machinery.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and structural principles, load calculations, and safety factors.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Customer-facing experience with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and practically.
- Comfortable working across sales, engineering, project management, and field environments.
- Ability to review CAD drawings, interpret FEA, and manage engineering documentation.
- Ability to support global partners and customers across multiple time zones.
- Occasional international travel as required.
- Experience with below-the-hook devices or crane systems preferred.
