The Dental HIS Clerk works within the clinical care and support teams to assure quality patient care and to support the goals of Lake Superior Community Health Center.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Complete and maintain prior authorizations for needed procedures for the dental department.
  • Create, maintain and complete dental referrals in the electronic health record.
  • Ensure referrals are completed with appropriate visit documentation scanned into the EHR.
  • Per referral guidelines, provide appropriate clinical information to outside facilities & specialists.
  • Track referral progress to promote team awareness and ensure patient safety.
  • Complete dental releases of information (ROIs).
  • Serve as backup for front desk coverage for all dental sites.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Assist in special projects.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and in-services.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional growth.
  • Adhere to the standards and policies of the organization.
  • Assure efficiency in communications and adherence to organization workflows.
  • Responsible for personal compliance with LSCHC policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma
  • Computer experience, preferably Microsoft office and software
  • Familiarity with general office equipment
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and organizational skills

  • Ability to maintain an even temperament with patients and staff

  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks

  • Ability to work as a team member

  • Ability to travel between sites, as needed, and as otherwise required by the organization

  • Knowledge of prior authorizations, ROI and releasing records and films, preferred

  • Knowledge of HIPAA and privacy practices, preferred

  • Experience with Health Information and prior authorizations, preferred

  • Experience in dental office, preferred

  • Knowledge of dental terminology, preferred

  • Experience with Epic, preferred

  • Associate degree in HIS, preferred

  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
