RESPONSIBILITIES:
Community Development and Educational Enrichment
- Being available and accessible to residents by spending a maximum amount of time on the floor and regularly interacting with the community.
- Having one on one interactions with residents.
- Advising students, within the limits of training and capacity, on personal, social, and academic concerns while maintaining strict confidentiality and making referrals when necessary.
- Developing personal relationships with each student on your floor and developing a floor community.
- Helping develop an atmosphere on the floor in which students have a concern and respect for the rights and privileges of others, as well as maintaining an atmosphere conducive to study and community living.
- Planning programs that expose students to new ideas, promote social interaction, and offer an opportunity for individual growth, education, and development.
- Serving as a role model for other students by:
Treating all members of the community with respect, including appreciate for individual differences;
Confronting and documenting inappropriate behavior in an assertive and responsible manner;
Taking a responsible and active role in the hall and campus community;
Adhering to all University and Residence Life policies;
Continuing to act in an ethical and responsible manner both on and off campus.
- Attending and participating in all Residence Life and Student Affairs training(s) and in-service workshops.
- Attending and participating in weekly hall meetings.
- Meeting biweekly with the building's respective Supervisors.
- Working as a desk staff member at the front desk of the respective building on scheduled duty nights.
- Ensuring students are aware of their rights and responsibilities they share within the community.
- Confronting and documenting students who violate community standards and/or University policy.
- Assisting in the opening, closing, move-in, move-out, and room change procedures of residence halls.
- Completing administrative and paperwork duties as assigned in timely manner.
- Assisting in handling emergency situations.
- Reporting any damages or maintenance needs and/or completing work orders.
- Live in assigned room on campus.
- Hold (3) weekly contact and (2) study hours a week.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 10-15 hours per week
- Must be available to work nights and weekends
REQUIRED:
- Must be available for Fall Training: TBD - approximately 2 weeks prior to the start of fall classes
- Must be available for Winter Training: TBD - approximately weekend prior to the start spring classes
- Newly hired Resident Assistants may be required to attend and participate in weekly new staff training(s).
- Attendance at UW-Superior and/or Residence Life events, such as Hall Opening, Weekend of Welcome
- On-campus room
- Meal plan
- Monetary $325 semesterly stipend
- Hall and Assistant Hall Manager(s) of respective building (Direct Supervisors)
- Can take direction from Residence Life Professional Staff
- Energy and enthusiasm for assisting students
- Ability to effectively mentor students in the areas of personal and academic related issues
- Demonstrate effective team work, communication, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to exhibit professional conduct at all times
- Must be a currently enrolled UW-Superior student with/maintain cumulative GPA of 2.75 and a semester GPA of 2.5 and must be returning for the full academic year
- Complete a housing and meal plan contract on Live@UWS for upcoming year and all other appropriate paperwork
- Experience living on campus is preferred
