Job Description

The Turnaround Lead Planner will support the planning and execution of major turnaround activities at a refinery in Superior, WI. This role focuses on developing executable scope, creating accurate estimates and schedules, and coordinating cross-functional teams to deliver safe, cost-effective, and on-schedule turnarounds. The position requires strong mechanical planning expertise, hands-on estimating and scope development experience, and the ability to lead and influence stakeholders across operations, maintenance, engineering, inspection, HSE, and procurement.

Responsibilities

* Lead the development, validation, and challenge of turnaround scope, ensuring alignment with risk ranking, field verification, and overall turnaround objectives.

* Conduct detailed field verifications to confirm scope accuracy and identify potential risks or constraints prior to execution.

* Perform planner training and update, redline, and refine work packages to ensure they are complete, accurate, and ready for execution.

* Prepare and validate cost estimates and detailed schedules to support turnaround budgeting, forecasting, and execution planning.

* Lead and facilitate Core Team meetings, driving alignment and decision-making across Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Inspection, HSE, and Procurement.

* Manage and control expense projects associated with the turnaround scope, ensuring they remain within budget and schedule constraints.

* Participate in constructability reviews to optimize scope, improve execution efficiency, and mitigate safety, quality, and schedule risks.

* Support Capital Project integration to ensure project work is effectively incorporated into overall turnaround plans and schedules.

* Facilitate piping design and fabrication activities to ensure constructible, cost-effective, and timely solutions for turnaround work.

* Support the competitive bidding process by developing bid packages, coordinating bidder walkthroughs, and collaborating with Procurement on bid evaluations and award recommendations.

* Interface closely with Procurement, Engineering, Contractors, and Operations to ensure materials, services, and resources are aligned with execution plans and timelines.

* Ensure all planning activities comply with site safety, quality, and regulatory standards and support a strong safety culture during planning and execution.

* Identify improvement opportunities, document lessons learned, and incorporate best practices into future turnaround planning and execution.

* Utilize planning, estimating, and scheduling tools such as IPS, SAP, and Primavera P6 to develop, monitor, and update turnaround plans and schedules.

* Provide turnaround scheduling support, including development and maintenance of detailed Primavera P6 schedules for preparation and execution phases.

Essential Skills

* Minimum 5-10 years of direct client-side turnaround planning experience.

* Strong mechanical background with the ability to understand and plan complex mechanical work scopes.

* Proven experience in turnaround scope development, including field verification and risk-based prioritization.

* Demonstrated experience in cost estimating and budget development for turnaround events.

* Experience in risk ranking and mitigation for turnaround projects.

* Experience managing projects associated with turnaround activities.

* Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate cross-functional teams and core turnaround teams.

* Familiarity with competitive bidding processes and experience working closely with Procurement.

* Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple work streams and deadlines in a turnaround-driven environment.

* Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

* Proficiency with planning, estimating, and scheduling tools such as IPS, SAP, and Primavera P6.

* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment focused on turnaround planning and execution.

* Experience with turnaround scheduling, including the use of Primavera P6.

* Prior experience in a Turnaround Lead Planner role.

* Experience managing or supporting large-scale or multi-unit turnarounds.

* Knowledge of turnaround industry best practices and standards.

* Turnaround field experience, including on-site support during execution.

* Experience in piping design and fabrication coordination.

* Experience participating in constructability reviews for turnaround or capital projects.

* Experience integrating capital projects into turnaround events.

* Ability to train planners and support continuous improvement in planning processes.

Work Environment
