Position Summary

SFS is seeking an experienced and motivated Airport / FBO Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our fixed base operation. This is a leadership role responsible for ensuring a safe, efficient, and customer-focused environment across all FBO services — including fuel, ground handling, line operations, facility/airfield management, and customer relations. The ideal candidate brings a strong aviation background, proven management experience, and the professional presence to represent SFS to customers, tenants, and airport stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
  • Oversee all daily FBO operations including fueling, line service, ground handling, tiedown, hangar rental, and ramp coordination
  • Develop, implement, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all line and ramp operations
  • Manage fuel inventory, ordering, quality control, and recordkeeping in compliance with industry standards
  • Oversee facility/airfield maintenance and coordinate repair and capital improvement projects
  • Track and schedule flight school aircraft maintenance
Team Leadership
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise line service technicians, customer service staff, and other FBO personnel
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, mentoring, and professional development for all direct reports
  • Foster a safety-first culture and lead by example in all operational and customer-facing activities
  • Manage staffing levels to meet operational demands, including on-call and after-hours coverage
Customer Experience
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for transient and based aircraft customers, flight school customers, and corporate accounts
  • Handle customer inquiries, concerns, and escalations promptly and professionally
  • Build and maintain relationships with corporate flight departments, charter operators, and based tenants
  • Develop and implement initiatives to improve customer satisfaction and grow FBO revenue
Business & Financial Management
  • Prepare and manage the FBO operations budget; monitor and report on P&L performance
  • Negotiate and manage vendor contracts for fuel, ground equipment, supplies, and services
  • Track key performance metrics and present regular operational and financial reports to ownership
  • Identify opportunities for revenue growth through new services, corporate accounts, and operational efficiencies
Qualifications Required
  • Minimum 3 years of aviation operations, FBO management, related airport management experience
  • Demonstrated supervisory or management experience in a fast-paced operational environment
  • Strong knowledge of FBO services, ramp operations, aircraft fueling procedures, and aviation safety standards
  • Familiarity with FAA, TSA, and OSHA regulations applicable to airport and FBO operations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to represent SFS professionally to customers and stakeholders
  • Proficiency with standard business software (Microsoft Office or equivalent); experience with FBO management software preferred
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass TSA security background check
Preferred
  • Private Pilot Certificate or higher (instrument rating a plus)
  • Familiarity with NATA safety standards and completion of NATA Professional Line Service Training (PLST)
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Existing relationships with corporate aviation clients or charter operators in the Upper Midwest region
Work Environment &

Physical Requirements

This position operates in both office and airside environments. The Operations Manager regularly works on the ramp in all weather conditions typical of Northern Wisconsin and must be able to work around aircraft, ground support equipment, and aviation fuels. Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and be available for occasional after-hours response. A professional appearance and demeanor are required at all times.
