Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and maintain CNC machines to manufacture precision components for hydraulic attachments used in heavy equipment. Interpret technical drawings, program CNC equipment, and ensure parts meet exact specifications and quality standards.
- Work with materials including high-strength steels and alloys; collaborate with engineering and fabrication teams to optimize production efficiency.
- Edit programs, set up and run all CNC and manual mills and lathes; study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements.
- Measure, mark and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
- Select, align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders and shapers.
- Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control data.
- Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls as required.
- Verify conformance of finished workpiece to specifications; set up and operate machine on trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
- Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve machining problems.
- Perform machine maintenance as needed; organize and keep clean work area and machine throughout shift.
- Perform production work as required and assigned by Supervisor (manual turning and milling, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints; inspect parts with calipers, bore gauges, micrometers, etc.
- Must know G and M codes and be skilled in shop math.
- Must have experience setting up and operating large milling centers.
- Ability to perform close tolerance work.
- Knowledge of 5-axis machining is helpful but not necessary.
- Strong problem-solving skills; proactive, positive attitude with a strong sense of self-motivation, accountability and responsibility.
