Position: Mentor Superior Program Advocate (PT - Superior, WI)

Title: Mentor Superior Program Advocate (Mentor Superior is a program of Mentor North, which facilitates supportive one-on-one mentoring relationships for youth in the Twin Ports of Duluth and Superior)

Reports to: Mentor North Lead Program Advocate

Job Type: Part Time, hourly, 25 hours per week

Location: Hybrid;
Superior, WI (primary) and Duluth, MN (secondary)

Schedule: Flexible hours generally falling between 8am and 5pm Monday - Friday, with variable evening and/or weekend meetings and events

Hourly Rate & Benefits: $20.26/hr, vacation, sick, holiday, health insurance avail. (Mentor North pays 50% of an employee’s premium for employees hired to work 21-29 hrs/week.)

Position Summary

The mission of Mentor North is “to celebrate youth and support their families through one-on-one mentorship and community engagement.”

The Superior Program Advocate provides direct program advocacy to a caseload of matched and unmatched youth and families, in alignment with Mentor North’s values, policies, and best practices. This role also supports program visibility, partnerships, and growth within the Superior community.

Essential functions Program Advocacy of Unmatched/Matched Caseload (85%)
  • Provide case management for matched and unmatched youth and their families by maintaining regular contact with youth, parents/guardians, and mentors (typically every 4–6 weeks), offering information, resources, and support; celebrating milestones; troubleshooting challenges; and communicating activities and events.
  • Document all interactions in Civi Core in a timely manner, maintain accurate and up-to-date case files, and approve mentor logs weekly.
  • Conduct family intakes.
  • Actively participate in mentor distribution meetings.
  • Actively participate in case management meetings, reporting on matches, progress, and issues of concern.
  • Support the annual evaluation process and adjust support for youth, mentors, and families based on participant feedback.
  • Contact the parent/guardian of unmatched youth every 6 months and conduct biography updates for unmatched youth.
  • Facilitate positive program exits that provide an opportunity for participants to celebrate accomplishments, share feedback, and process the experience of being part of the program.
Program Visibility, Partnerships, and Growth (5%)
  • Participate in community outreach, events, and task forces that increase awareness of Mentor North and strengthen referral and partnership pathways in the Superior community.
  • Assist with targeted mentor recruitment efforts by representing the interests and needs of enrolled youth.
General Agency Support and Collaboration (10%)
  • Assist with coordinating and executing Mentor North events for matches and families.
  • Assist with ethical storytelling and sharing impact by providing stories and/or photos shared by mentors, youth and families as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings, team meetings, committee meetings, board meetings and trainings as scheduled/needed.
  • Assist with fundraising events and initiatives, as needed.
  • Other job duties as assigned by the Lead PA or Executive Director.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Previous experience working with children, youth and their parents in a developmental setting and prior experience working with diverse populations who may have experienced trauma
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to quickly engage and build trust
