Job Description
Under the guidance of a Certified Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse preceptor, the Clinical Assistant in Training works at an entry‑level supporting RN, physician and other providers with direct patient care in an ambulatory setting. The apprentice will perform identified procedures independently once competencies have been demonstrated and will care for patients ranging in age from newborn to elderly.
ResponsibilitiesAssist RN, physicians and other providers with direct patient care; perform clinical procedures as trained; provide patient support and education; maintain a clean and safe patient care environment.
Education and QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent.
- BCLS certified, or able to obtain BCLS certification within 3 months.
- Enrollment in the In‑Clinic Assistant Training Apprenticeship Program (ICATAP) and completion of learning modules every 3 months for 12 months.
- Completion of ICATAP and attainment of CCMA Board Certification within 12 months of ending the apprenticeship program and meeting the required on‑the‑job hours.
Essentia Health’s Clinical Assistant Apprenticeship Program combines one‑year full‑time on‑the‑job training with educational courses. Apprentices are paired with mentors/preceptors and study classroom materials independently. The program prepares participants for CCMA certification, which recognizes work experience as a qualification to take the exam.
Compensation and Work HoursWage: $19.00 per hour (fixed) – $19.00 – $19.00 / hour
