Assistant Services Manager

Overview

The Assistant Services Manager (ASM) leads Ulta Beauty's salon services team, driving sales growth, guest satisfaction, and operational excellence while also providing hands‑on services to guests.

• Perform salon hair services, makeup applications, skincare analysis, brow services, and product demonstrations.
• Achieve individual productivity goals each week.
• Promote a culture of accountability to exceed store goals in service and merchandise sales, guest loyalty, payroll, omni‑channel, and retail shrink.
• Drive profitability through operational excellence, top‑line sales growth, and expense control.
• Plan and execute services events to enhance guest experience and support sales and payroll goals.
• Review and analyze financial and operational reports, and develop strategies to improve service sales.
• Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
• Maintain attendance as the ASM and hold all services associates accountable to the Ulta Beauty attendance policy.

• Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of service professionals using various recruitment methods.
• Build a highly engaged team that embodies the Ulta Beauty brand through effective collaboration and coaching.
• Train, coach, and develop services professionals using company programs and resources.
• Create an inclusive environment that encourages growth and participation in training programs.
• Provide individualized, competency‑based feedback and coaching, succession planning, and development plans.
• Establish brand partner relationships to collaboratively achieve sales and service goals.
• Promote a culture of service excellence by sharing best practices and supporting the leadership team.

• Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards.
• Respond promptly to all company communications.
• Enforce Ulta Beauty’s dress code.
• Manage salon supply inventory and ordering within allocated budget.
• Use the task management tool to prioritize and execute store workload.
• Protect company assets and minimize loss through adherence to workplace safety, inventory control, and loss prevention.
• Advocate continuous improvement, technology adoption, and task execution.
• Support scheduling of service associates to optimize traffic patterns and productivity.

• Graduate of a cosmetology school.
• Cosmetology license and/or cosmetology management license where required by state law.

• 2–3+ years relevant, fast‑paced salon management experience.
• Knowledge of state board of cosmetology regulations and hiring requirements.
• Financial management experience: driving top‑line sales, interpreting reporting data, managing payroll budgets, controlling expenses.
• Leadership experience: attracting, developing, and motivating talent; adapting to change; building collaborative relationships; influencing others.

• Proficiency with latest salon techniques for haircutting, hair color, lightening, styling, texture, treatment, extensions, makeup, and brow services.
• Proficiency with ear piercing services (where applicable) and aptitude to develop skills in all service categories.
• Proficiency with basic technology (Point of Sale, Microsoft Office, Apple devices).
• Strong collaboration, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to perform under pressure, use good judgment, and be flexible and adaptable.

• Work a flexible full‑time schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Attend corporate business meetings and conferences.

• Continuous mobility throughout the store during shift.
• Frequent standing, bending, reaching, and twisting during shift.
• Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs during shift.
• Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shift.
• Frequent use of a computer, telephonic devices, and related office supplies.
