POSITION SUMMARY INFORMATION: DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
Job Summary
:
The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for supporting the Superintendent with on-site management of construction projects, ensuring safety, quality control, subcontractor coordination, and strict adherence to the project schedule. This role requires continuous on-site presence during all contract operations until project completion and final acceptance. The Assistant Superintendent is required to fill in for the Superintendent when the Superintendent is not on‑site.
Duties/Responsibilities
:
- Direct day‑to‑day on‑site production activities and ensure strict project schedule adherence.
- Manage, oversee, and coordinate the work of all on‑site subcontractors.
- Identify site hazards, enforce safety compliance, and maintain a secure working environment.
- Attend and actively participate in all project partnering meetings and quality control meetings.
- Maintain detailed, accurate daily logs documenting site conditions, manpower, weather, materials received, and field progress.
- Maintain a continuous physical presence on the job site during all contract work performance until project completion and formal acceptance.
- Resolve field‑level disputes, logistics clashes, or jurisdictional issues between subcontractors immediately to prevent delays.
- Maintain an accurate, up‑to‑date set of redline/as‑built drawings on‑site throughout the lifecycle of the project.
- Document field modifications, tracking labor and material expenditures for potential change orders or extra work authorizations.
- Lead the investigation and reporting of any near‑misses, injuries, or safety violations, implementing corrective action immediately.
Required Education, Certifications, Licenses, and
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience serving as a Superintendent on projects of similar size, value, and complexity.
- Proven ability to read, interpret, and analyze complex construction drawings and critical path schedules (CPM).
- Strong background and familiarity with hazard identification and active safety compliance protocols.
- Deep comprehension of construction methods, local building codes, trade jurisdictions, and strict regulatory standards.
- Prior experience executing and adhering to strict government agency contracts or specialized federal oversight.
- Must be capable of reading, writing, and conversing fluently in the English language.
Preferred Education, Certifications, Licenses, and Experience
:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, Building Construction, Architecture, or an equivalent engineering field.
- Current OSHA 30-Hour Certification and USACE/NAVFAC Construction Quality Management (CQM) for Contractors certification.
Employees may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
Physical Requirements
:
Employees may be required to remain in a stationary position, stand, push, pull, climb, kneel, crawl, balance, squat, bend, and reach. Employees may also be required to use gear to move items around, including, but not limited to, carts and dollies. Employees may also be occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds.
