Forklift Operator – Surprise Location
St. Mary's Food Bank is currently seeking a Forklift Operator for our Surprise location. The position reports to the Client Center Manager/Supervisor of the facility and assists with order verification, order filling, proper storage of food/non‑food product, receiving, distribution, inventory, and cycle counting in accordance with established operational policies, principles, and procedures. The role requires flexibility, excellent communication skills, project coordination experience, and the ability to prioritize and work well with all levels of management and staff.
Responsibilities include support for direct client distribution programs, EFB/CSFP distributions, training staff/volunteers, quality assurance of distributed food, and ensuring the safety and security of the lobby and parking lot.
Hours for this position are M-F, 7:00am-3:30pm. The operator is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and organized facility that complies with Feeding America and Maricopa County Health Department inspection guidelines at all times.
Position Responsibilities- Unloads product from trailers and moves to assigned staging areas.
- Palletizes and shrink wraps product for stability, proper storage, and transportation.
- Maintains all work areas in a clean and sanitary condition, including the client service lobby, parking lot, warehouse, shipping and receiving dock, cooler, freezer, and dry storage areas.
- Ensures the proper number of trained volunteers/staff is available and properly placed to provide excellent client service.
- Has a basic knowledge of how to operate within the Ceres software.
- Assists receiving with the weighing and staging of all incoming product.
- Completes daily, weekly, and monthly reports as required.
- Helps keep inventory stocked and assists with product selection/ordering.
- Assists with inventory cycle counting as required.
- Provides support for volunteer groups and community service workers during production line to ensure a quality experience and product.
- Oversees the production process and volunteers at all times, ensuring assigned tasks are completed correctly and that volunteers have a meaningful work experience.
- Communicates effectively with team members, supervisors/managers, and all customers.
- Rotates perishable product using First-in, First-out management to ensure quality.
- Ensures quality assurance standards of incoming product are maintained.
- Assists in opening and closing of the facility.
- Records/maintains temperature logs of coolers and freezers, and reports any issues.
- Performs all other duties assigned by Management.
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicit work output.
- Ability to provide solution‑based positive communication to internal and external customers.
- Knowledge of basic math.
- Above average oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to teach warehouse procedures and company policies to staff.
- Self‑starter with ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
- Planning and organization skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Understanding of CERES Inventory Systems.
- Food Handler and/or Serv‑Safe certified.
- Knowledge of basic warehouse sanitation.
- Experience with shipping and receiving procedures.

- Ability to operate forklift and electric pallet jack.
- Ability to perform multitasking.
- Good interpersonal skills with ability to coach employees and train them in proper operational processes and procedures.
