The Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist – Utility Vegetation Management (UVM) plays a critical role in advancing operational safety, workforce readiness, and regulatory compliance across Arbor Works’ field operations. This position combines safety leadership with utility-specific expertise to ensure employees are not only compliant with OSHA and ANSI standards, but also technically capable of safely performing work in proximity to energized electrical systems.
This role serves as a key partner to Operations and leadership by evaluating field performance, validating employee qualifications, and supporting workforce development across all crew classifications. Through hands-on field engagement, coaching, and standardized assessments, the EH&S Specialist strengthens safety culture, supports employee progression, and ensures consistent application of safe and efficient work practices in high-risk environments.
JOB LOCATION(S)- Phoenix, AZ and surrounding areas.
Field Safety & Operational Oversight:
- Conduct field-based safety observations and hazard assessments in utility vegetation management environments.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with energized electrical systems, including work around conductors, poles, and right-of-way conditions.
- Participate in and lead tailboard/job briefings to reinforce safe work practices and hazard awareness.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI Z133, and client-specific safety standards during active operations.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through visible field presence and engagement with crews.
Workforce Evaluation & Classification:
- Assess and validate employee competencies across all job classifications, including General Foreperson, Foreperson, Trimmer/Climber, and Groundperson roles.
- Determine employee readiness for assigned classifications through structured, field-based evaluations of skills, knowledge, and safe work execution.
- Identify required competencies and performance expectations associated with each role and ensure consistent application across regions.
- Provide objective recommendations regarding employee placement, progression, and promotion readiness.
Training & Field
Coaching:
- Deliver hands-on, field-based coaching focused on safe work practices, technical execution, and hazard recognition.
- Evaluate employee performance in core UVM tasks such as chainsaw operation, job setup, and safe work positioning.
- Reinforce standardized work methods and ensure understanding of company safety policies and procedures.
- Support development and consistency of training practices aligned with operational needs.
Compliance & Incident Support:
- Assist in incident investigations, including collecting field data, conducting interviews, and documenting findings.
- Prepare accurate and timely reports in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
