Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

As a Heavy Equipment Operator Senior, you will develop our up-and-coming Operators!
In this role, you will assist employees in developing the necessary skills needed to safely operate heavy equipment and commercial motor vehicles for construction activities and road maintenance.

- Five years of work experience operating trucks and heavy equipment
- High school diploma or GED
- Must possess a valid Arizona Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a tanker endorsement
- State and federal regulations require Maricopa County to conduct a pre-employment safety history investigation for all positions that require an applicant to possess a commercial driver's license (CDL). Maricopa County is also required to conduct a pre-employment safety history investigation for positions that directly impact commercial motor vehicle safety, but may not specifically require a valid CDL
- Experience as an American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Flagger Instructor or Traffic Control Supervisor
- Train others in both a classroom setting and a field environment on policies, as well as safe, effective, and efficient operations of various equipment and trucks
- Operate a variety of construction and maintenance equipment/vehicles, including motor grader, articulated front-end loader, backhoe, water truck, dump truck, belly dump truck, and other equipment
- Pre-check, train, clean, and perform routine maintenance work on equipment; identify and report mechanical problems that require extensive repair
- Complete required daily logs and prepare reports; attend safety meetings
- Enter training information and data into Learning Management and Asset Management software
- Plan, coordinate, and schedule training for all assigned equipment and vehicles
- Report safety hazards and traffic problems to Roadway Leadership
- Perform tasks in the interest of public safety and property protection during emergencies

- This position requires the employee to be in the office/field or customer-facing for all hours worked
- Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly
- Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
- Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration
- Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel
