Westland Insurance Group Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Payroll in Surrey, BC at our Head Office (hybrid) . As a Manager, Payroll, you will lead the accurate, timely, and compliant delivery of payroll for approximately 3,500 employees across Canada and a small U.S. population.
Expected Compensation: The expected hiring range for this role is $100,000 to $120,000 based on a 35-hour work week. Actual offered salary will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as market conditions for the role, and internal equity.

As a Manager, Payroll, you will lead a team of payroll professionals while partnering closely with HR, Finance, Benefits teams and external vendors. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring payroll integrity, strong controls, and a high-quality employee experience, while also supporting acquisitions and business integrations as Westland continues to grow.

Why we’ll love You:
- You bring 7+ years of progressive payroll experience in mid-to-large organizations, including multi-provincial Canadian payroll and some U.S. exposure, with a strong understanding of payroll legislation, statutory requirements, and complex pay scenarios such as commissions, incentives, variable pay, retro adjustments, and year-end processes
- You’re a people-focused leader with 3+ years of leadership experience, known for coaching and developing teams, setting clear priorities, maintaining strong controls, and staying calm and decisive in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments
- You’re highly analytical, detail-oriented, and systems-savvy, with advanced Excel skills, strong payroll system experience, and a passion for continuous improvement, compliance, and data accuracy—including experience supporting M&A or large-scale onboarding
- You communicate clearly and professionally, partner effectively with HR, Finance, and business leaders, and bring added value through a PCP or CPM designation (or progress toward one)
Once here, you'll:
- Oversee end-to-end payroll processing across Canada and a small U.S. population, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of payroll professionals, setting clear standards and ensuring business continuity
- Act as the primary escalation point for complex payroll issues and employee inquiries
- Ensure accurate processing of salary, hourly, overtime, commissions, incentives, bonuses, and retroactive adjustments
