Match Box Consulting Group is seeking an HSE Manager to join our client, a leading construction firm delivering commercial, industrial, and residential projects across Canada and the United States. With over 180 employees and a strong growth trajectory, they combine large-firm capability with a highly collaborative and hands-on culture.

This is a high-impact leadership role reporting directly to the Director of Health, Safety & Environment. The HSE Manager supports the Director in executing and continuously improving company-wide health, safety, and environmental programs. You will provide oversight and coaching to Construction Safety Officers and project teams, ensuring consistent application of the Safety Management System across all projects.

This role requires travel to project sites across Canada and the U.S. approximately 2-3 days, twice per month. Cross-border travel is required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, standardize, and continuously improve the Safety Management System
  • Ensure consistent application of policies, procedures, safe work practices, and hazard assessments
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to CSOs and project teams
  • Support compliance, documentation, and regulatory alignment across projects
  • Lead or support investigations for recordable incidents and serious near misses
  • Conduct root cause analyses and ensure corrective actions are implemented and closed
  • Develop and monitor safety training, onboarding, and certification programs
  • Track qualifications and ensure compliance across projects
  • Track safety metrics and audit findings
  • Report performance trends to leadership and drive proactive improvements
Qualifications
  • 7–10 years of progressive HSE experience in construction, high-rise, or similar high-risk environments
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety
  • ASTTBC CSO or NCSO designation with practical construction experience
  • Professional designation such as CRSP, CSP, or CHSC preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian OHS legislation; U.S. OSHA exposure is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and managing HSE systems
  • Experience leading investigations, training programs, and compliance initiatives
  • Valid driver’s license and passport for cross-border travel
  • Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency for reporting and documentation
  • Experience with workers’ compensation or claims management
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
