Position: Commercial Truck Mechanic Apprentice Level 3 or 4

Location:

St, Surrey, BC V4N 4W7, Canada

Pay: $32‑$34

Shift: Monday to Friday 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.

Shift Premiums: 2nd Shift $3; 3rd Shift $5;
Weekend $3.

Major Responsibilities
  • Repair and diagnose engines (gas and diesel), power‑train components (differentials, transmissions, clutches, drive shafts, PTOs, wheel ends), electrical systems, HVAC, steering, electronics, and other major components.
  • Perform mechanical and general appearance reconditioning of equipment for trade‑ins and prepare new equipment for delivery.
  • Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units.
  • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services.
  • Document warrantable repairs on repair orders.
  • Maintain work area appearance and safety.
  • Road‑test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or ensure proper operation.
  • Use hand tools and power tools, including pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and hoists.
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other critical components.
  • Carry out routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment.
  • Adjust and replace brakes, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
  • Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
  • Inspect, test, and diagnose defective equipment using test instruments.
  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and safety devices.
  • Verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  • Specialize in repairing and troubleshooting major components such as engines, transmissions, and differentials.
  • Perform other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of practical experience with tractor‑trailer maintenance.
  • Currently enrolled in an apprenticeship program.
  • Maintained membership/registration with respective government agencies.
  • Candidate consideration for those with a 310S license or automotive background.
  • Specialized training in repair and replacement of vehicle components preferred.
  • Proficiency in the use of shop tools.
  • Valid class G (or class 5) driver’s license and ability to obtain class DZ within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry into maintenance systems.
  • Ability to work in non‑climate‑controlled conditions.
  • Regular, predictable, full attendance required.
  • Willingness to travel within the district, work required schedule, and complete Penske employment application and reference check.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly lift or move up to 12 kg, frequently up to 23 kg, occasionally up to 45 kg.
  • Required visual abilities: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, focus adjustment.
  • Must stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear regularly; use hands to finger, handle, feel, reach, and use arms.
